Public Health Nurse II

Hours: 8:00 - 5:00 Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week
The Public Health Nurse II will provide primary and preventive health care to individuals and families in a public health agency. The PHN II will implement nursing care and counsel for the promotion of health and prevention of disease.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Complete basic nursing assessment
- Administration of vaccines
- Perform and assist with minor office procedures
- Triage
- Collect lab specimens
- Provide education
Education/Experience: Graduation from a four-year college or university with a B.S. degree in Nursing including a public health rotation; or graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing or an equivalent combination of training and experience. One year minimum of Pediatric experience and/or one year in an office, public health or pediatric hospital setting required. Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
License: Valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina. Current CPR certification.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- General knowledge of and skill in the application of nursing theory, practices, principles, and techniques employed in the field of public health and related programs
- Knowledge of current social and economic problems relating to healthcare
- Working knowledge of available resources and organizations
- Ability to deal tactfully with others and to exercise good judgment in appraising situations and making decisions
- Must be able to secure the cooperation of clients, to elicit needed information and to maintain effective working relationships
- Accurately record services rendered, interpret and explain records, reports and medical instruction
- Ability to plan, coordinate, and supervise the work of others
