We are hiring a Teacher of Exceptional Children to our growing team The Teacher of Exceptional Children Works to improve educational outcomes for diverse and early learners through training and coaching for local district staff and teachers, technical assistance, guidance and policy documents, and providing support for students and their families. Will be working in a classroom with many different types of children, including but not limited to, those who are physically disabled or sensory impaired, and/or with speech difficulties or autism. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilizes holistic care methodologies to continually pour into students and staff with a sense of personal responsibility and compassion toward seeing them succeed. 
  • Adheres to the policies and procedures in alignment with Association of Christian School International, Abeka curriculum, and additionally the vision of The Millard School when directing in-person and virtual learning platforms. 
  • Spiritually responsible under the direction of the Principal to utilize Biblical holistic care methodologies when managing and caring for students, families, and staff. 
  • Builds and navigates relationships with students and caretakers from diversified backgrounds with love, acceptance, and sensitivity. 
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver instructional activities according to a biblically integrated curriculum. Be responsible for the safety of the students throughout the school day in all settings. 
  • Consistently meet student performance curriculum objectives. 
  • Observe and evaluate student progress. 
  • Maintain accurate and timely grade reports. 
  • Maintain accurate and neat student files in accordance with ACSI Accreditation Standards. 
  • Develop supplemental curriculum activities when necessary and in alignment with the mission of TMS. 
  • Appropriately implement incentives within the classroom to ensure student engagement. 
  • Display flexibility with new ideas and challenges, and seek counsel in the unknown. 
  • Contributes to the development of the total school philosophy of education. 
  • Assists in the adaptation of school policies to include special education needs. 
  • Recommends policies and programs essential to the needs of exceptional children. 
  • Keeps informed of all legal requirements governing special education. 
  • Provides leadership in establishing new programs and developing an improved understanding of existing programs. 
  • Develops and initiates survey programs for the continuous identification of exceptional children. Evaluates existing programs as an ongoing responsibility and recommend changes and additions as needed. 
  • Establishes procedures for placement, evaluation, assignment, and evaluation of students with regard to the special education services program. 
  • Assists in recruitment, selection, and recommendation for the hiring of any special education personnel. 
  • Assumes responsibility for compiling, maintaining, and filing all reports, records, and other documents legally required or administratively useful. 
  • Teaches a small group of students and individuals inside and outside the classroom. Developing and adapting individualized teaching methods that are suitable for each student. 
  • Supervises preparation of data necessary for reimbursement of funds, collecting of tuition for out-of-district students, and similar fiscal matters. 
  • Develops budget recommendations and provides expenditures to control established budgets for special education. 
  • Keeps informed of state financial aid for special education. 
  • Interprets the objectives and programs for the special education services to the Board, the administration, the staff, and the public at large. 
  • Evaluates on an ongoing basis, the total special education program curriculum, procedures, and individual students' needs and achievements. 
  • Makes recommendations on design, furnishings, equipment, and location of new special education facilities. 
  • Assumes responsibility for own professional growth and development, for keeping current with the literature, new research findings, and improved techniques; and for attending appropriate professional meetings and conventions. 
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Principal. 
  • Part of a multidisciplinary treatment team including but not limited to a counselor, speech pathologist, occupational therapist, and psychologist

Key Experience and Education Needed:

  • Must hold, at minimum, a Bachelor's degree in special education 
  • Current, valid state certificate- exceptional children/special education 
  • 5+ years experience preferred 
  • Experience working with developmental disorders preferred 
  • Proficient in office software programs 
  • Exhibits excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Must be organized, coordinated, and manage time efficiently
 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: 

 
  • Ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time 
  • Ability to read detailed health records 
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 10 lbs. 
  • Ability to operate computer and other equipment in the office 
  • Must have sufficient mobility to move around the office and the community
