Summary
The Social Media Specialist oversees Vermont Public’s content distribution and branding efforts on social media platforms. The Specialist has deep-rooted knowledge of key platforms and exemplifies the organization’s efforts to connect with audiences authentically.
The Specialist both creates content and develops strategies for increasing audience engagement, building awareness and amplifying key organizational initiatives. They serve as the in-house expert on leveraging social media to fuel audience growth and deepen engagement, with an eye towards analytics, emerging trends, and audience needs.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Create platform-specific content based on news, marketing and fundraising priorities, utilizing graphics, stills, and short-form video.
Set specifications on and manage contributions to social channels from reporters and producers across the organization.
Use social media management and scheduling tools to optimize the publishing cadence and content mix on our feeds.
Collaborate with producers and reporters on audience engagement efforts, including polls, surveys, callouts and discussions.
Coordinate with programming and engineering teams on digital live streaming efforts during major live broadcasts.
Collaborate with marketing and development teams on posts that contribute to brand awareness, audience development and fundraising goals.
Manage accounts on key platforms, including maintaining profiles, managing credentials and training for internal users, and pursuing technical support when necessary.
Monitor analytics, using data to respond to audience preferences around topics and formats.
Research and respond to trends related to new and existing social platforms.

Position Requirements
Education and Experience
College degree or at least 2 years of relevant professional experience. Should have a demonstrated ability to connect with audiences on social media. Background in graphic design, video, photography or photo editing is a plus, as is experience in journalism and media.
Working Conditions
Work is normally performed in a climate-controlled office environment with moderate noise levels (computers, telephones, etc.). No known environmental hazards are encountered in the normal performance of job duties.
Physical Demands
Work involves standing and walking for brief periods, bending, and filing, but most duties are from a seated position. There is potential for eyestrain from reading detailed materials on a computer screen. Deadlines, workloads during peak periods, and changing priorities may cause increased stress levels. Work requires finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination to operate computer keyboards at a moderate skill level.
