Summary of Position

The Director of Sales and Marketing will be responsible for developing and executing sales strategies to drive business growth and achieve revenue targets. The ideal candidate will lead a team of sales professionals responsible for group and transient rooms, group food and beverage, meeting room rental, local catering, outlet, and other revenues by providing guidance, support, and direction. Strategies are inclusive of direct sales, pricing, market mix, and acquisition status and results. This individual will be a member of the Senior Leadership Team.

Roles and Responsibilities

Job duties include; although are not limited to:

  1. Direct and manage all group, transient, and catering/banquet sales activities to drive revenue growth and achieve sales targets
  2. Identify new market opportunities, target guest segments, and develop effective sales plans to penetrate those markets
  3. Lead and manage the sales team, including setting sales goals, monitoring performance, and providing coaching and feedback to ensure the team’s success
  4. Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders/guests, partners and actively engage in sales activities, including negotiations and closing deals
  5. Analyze sales data, market trends, and guest feedback to identify areas for improvement and develop strategies to enhance sales effectiveness
  6. Develop rates and deployment strategies through research and analysis of competitive data and mix management
  7. Assist with the recruitment of key positions within department.
  8. Lead, manage and train through fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.
  9. Actively participate in sales presentations, property tours and customer meetings. Conduct daily sales meetings with the team and attend daily business review meetings, weekly strategic sales meetings, management meetings and other meetings as required/ requested.
  10. Annually achieve all market segments budgeted room nights and revenue goals
  11. Ensure accuracy for forecasting of revenues, monthly reports, sales budget
  12. Recruit, direct, manage, train and counsel sales and marketing team.
  13. Assist Sales/Catering/Conference Services in receiving the necessary guest information and closing business, as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree is required.
  • Five to seven years of sales and marketing leadership in similar sized luxury operation preferred
  • Must possess computer skills, including, but not limited to, use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Delphi.
  • Knowledge of computer accounting programs, math skills as well as budgetary analysis capabilities required.
  • Ability to use professional sales techniques to negotiate the best possible terms and conditions that satisfy customer (internal and external) requirements.
  • Creates an atmosphere in which timely information flows smoothly throughout the department; possesses exceptional communications skills.
  • Experience working within hotel sales operations, managing team members and budgets.
  • Ability to translate business needs into what needs to be done; ensures that all work is completed effectively; monitors the progress of work against schedules and budgets; maintains high performance standards.
  • Understands our competition and knows how to sell against them.
  • Possession of in-depth understanding of global travel in addition to a network of contacts.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to work in dynamic and fast-changing environment.
  • Must be a self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Possible prolonged periods of standing.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
