Lancaster Farming is looking for a Advertising Sales Representative to join our team Advertising Sales Representative will be primary responsible for selling advertising space into Lancaster Farming, special sections and online. This is done via phone, email, fax, mail and in-person at occasional trade shows and customer visits. The position is also responsible for sales support and general customer service and clerical duties related to the day-to-day operation of the newspapers.

Lancaster Farming is the “Farmer’s Choice” since 1955, covering many agriculture industries, including dairy, beef, swine, sheep, goat, horse and specialty animal buyers and sellers. It is also the largest farm implement marketplace in the Northeast. Every Saturday, the newspaper delivers news, market and commodity reports, and agribusiness information to more than 60,000 paid subscribers in Pennsylvania and fifteen other states.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Acquire familiarity with the agriculture industry. Use available information, as well as new self-created and approved data, to develop interesting and factual sales presentations
  • Develop work plans to ensure maximum sales and service contact with current and past customers and present special sales opportunities as they arise.
  • Actively prospect for new customers in competitive products; the internet, trade shows and other sources. Based on a needs assessment, prepare "spec" ads, and sales presentations and present to prospects with appropriate follow up contact
  • Help cover for inside and outside sales territories when reps are off
  • Represent the company at trade shows in Pennsylvania and surrounding states to gain new subscribers and advertisers
  • Understanding of credit policies and correctly apply them
  • Knowledge and effective use of rate cards
  • Adhere to published deadlines and be prompt with all assignments
  • Knowledge and correct usage of insertion orders and inter-departmental forms
  • Create and prepare clear, specific and accurate advertising copy and layouts (finished and spec) for assigned territories
  • Prompt, fair, decisive and courteous actions in handling complaints and inquiries at the instruction of the supervisor
  • Effective communication and persuasive skills in oral, written, email sales presentations; demonstrate a good command of the language and a working knowledge of technical terms
  • Project a professional, positive and enthusiastic image during the performance of duties


In addition to the essential functions listed above, the employee is expected to exercise honesty, integrity and respect with all clients and co-workers, maintain a professional appearance and demeanor, demonstrate a positive attitude, communicate effectively with co-workers and clients, work with accuracy, efficiency, and attention to detail, respect the work environment and keep it as neat and clean as possible, and exercise initiative to learn new skills and tasks and to help co-workers when possible.


The employee is also expected to perform such other duties and functions as required from time to time.


Working Conditions:

Hybrid schedule working from home and an office environment with co-workers. On occasion, travel away from office may be necessary.

Requirements:
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products
  • Type 30+ wpm
  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Previous sales experience & agricultural background preferred
