Job Summary:

The rental manager will provide administrative support to the rental and retail Supervisors and employees. We are seeking highly-motivated candidates who are well-organized, take initiative, manage their time well, and act with professionalism. They will directly impact the growth and financial success of the department. This person will report to the Retail/Rental Manager, and will be a member of the Skier Services leadership team. This roll requires a high level of leadership, organizational and financial acumen, and the ideal candidate will have strong ski resort rental or retail experience. This position is seasonal, running approximately from September to April.

 

Job Specifications:

  • Location: Afton Alps
  • Expected Pay Range: The budgeted range starts at $25.00 - $28.94. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience.
  • Shift & Schedule Availability: Full Time / Seasonal
  • Skill Level: Advanced

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Execute daily operations by opening and/or closing retail/rental outlets, including filling front-line employee positions as necessary, especially during non-peak periods.
  • Oversee a staff of 90 team members and 3 locations
  • Serves customers by establishing rapport, building customer confidence, providing accurate information, and promoting product through point of successful sale.
  • Ensure all weekly scheduling needs are met in a timely manner, leverage work force scheduling and reporting tools to ensure the department is meeting its staffing labor margin targets.
  • Partner with the Retail/Rental Manager and other senior leadership to contribute to the overall betterment of the guest experience, employee experience, and financial results of the resort.
  • Act as a mentor who can train and lead the rental technician team. Partner with the Retail/Rental Manager to establish and implement procedures and processes that support brand standards.
  • Assist with uniform processes and procedures, as needed.
  • Assist with HR processes and procedures, as needed.
  • Serve as a resort evening Manager on Duty two times per month in season.
  • Maintain electronic filing system through attention to detail and timeliness.
  • Assist in the training and development of retail/rental staff and seasonal supervisors.
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate professionally to staff and guests. Respond and engage with customer suggestions, complaints, and recognition.
  • Promote product in line with customer's expressed needs.
  • Promoting the damage waiver on rental equipment products.
  • Ensure pricing is accurate and current, including any and all promotions.
  • Fit boots, skis, snowboards, helmets and/or poles to each guest.
  • Adhere to all policies, rules, and regulations of Vail Resorts and Afton Alps.
  • Create and maintain a productive and safe work environment, including implementing and retaining all company mandated safety-related training and assessments.
  • Ensure all retail/rental locations are clean, have updated materials, and present a professional appearance to our guests, staff, and purveyors.
  • Manage administrative needs for the retail/rental employees.
  • Develop, adhere to, and role model the company’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Job Qualifications:

  • At least 3 years of retail sales and customer service, outdoor sporting goods experience – Preferred.
  • At least 1 year of supervisory experience in a customer service environment – Preferred.
  • High school degree or equivalent.
  • College degree – Preferred.
  • Must be at least 18 years old – Required.
  • Professionalism and strong guest service skills, attention to detail and timeliness.
  • Flexible schedule required during peak times throughout the year.  Must be willing to work evenings, holidays and weekends – Required.
  • Previous snow sports rental experience – Preferred.
  • Knowledge of products and trends within the outdoor sporting goods industry.
  • Commitment to providing excellent customer service.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite, previous RPOS and staffing web app experience - Preferred.
  • High level of interpersonal skills to ensure: teamwork, high level guest contact, and commitment to guest service.
  • Must demonstrate ability to receive and give direction and act upon it.
  • Must be mechanically inclined with the ability to use hand tools and power tools on a daily basis.
  • Willing to become certified by ski binding manufacturers.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Ability to comprehend and apply specific company designed methods and protocol. Friendly, personable, and comfortable working with people.

The expected pay range is $25.00 - $28.94. This is the pay range we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.
