Position Summary

The Custom Manufacturing Manager oversees and coordinates the custom manufacturing processes, focusing on enhancing quality and efficiency. This role is responsible for supervising the manufacturing team, managing custom playground design projects, and improving manufacturing processes to meet strategic and operational goals.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Continuous Improvement:Utilize QCDSME boards to drive continuous improvement in work centers, including setting goals and tracking trending information.
    • Timely Delivery: Oversee the timely delivery of products to both internal and external customers.
    • Documentation and Compliance: Contribute to the development of manufacturing work instructions, process control plans, and other required documentation.
    • Safety: Promote and ensure a safe working environment.
    • Standard Work: establish and maintain standard work practices.
    • Compliance: Ensure adherence to ISO 9000 and 14000 standards, and meet all related requirements; Participate in internal audits and engineering projects to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Leadership and Team Management:
    • Leadership: Provide leadership and development for team members, managing performance through coaching and corrective action.
    • Team Direction: Provide direction to fabricators, assemblers, welders, and other team members.
    • Staffing Management and Planning: Develop and execute staffing plans based on demand a future sales projections
    • Assessment and Reporting: Assess department needs including staffing, capacity constraints, and equipment maintenance. Communicate these needs clearly to management.
  • Project and Product Management and Insights:
    • Project Ownership: Own and manage custom projects, promoting quality, cost efficiency, delivery, safety, morale, and environmental initiatives.
    • Workflow Improvement: Enhance workflow, documentation, and communication between shop floor and design teams.
    • Design Evaluation: Audit customer-driven requests for aesthetics, functionality, and manufacturability.
    • Design Insight: Offer insights to custom mechanical designers on engineering part specifications.
    • Project Meetings: Attend and contribute to meetings impacting custom projects, including design reviews and production planning.
    • Product Development: Assist in the development of new products, prototypes, and pilot runs, and adapt processes as needed.
    • Engineering Change Orders: Manage engineering changes, including change orders and customer contact notices, and resolve related issues.
    • Final Improvements: Conduct project recaps and implement final improvements.
    • Troubleshooting: Address issues related to shipments, material handling, and instruction details.
    • Technical Expertise: Apply knowledge of machines, engineering practices, and concrete-specific issues to manage production challenges.
    • Project Management: Oversee project scheduling, resource coordination, and physical prebuilds.
    • Problem Solving: Address and resolve custom manufacturing problems effectively.
    • Vendor Management: Work with vendors and suppliers to obtain specialty tools and supplies.
    • Resource Management: Determine and procure necessary parts, equipment, and tools to meet manufacturing goals.

Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in business management, engineering or related field
  • 5+ years’ experience working in a production environment required
  • 3+ years’ experience managing production individuals required
  • Experience with lean manufacturing principals and tools required
  • Knowledge of 3D CAD software and an ERP system is strongly preferred
  • Adaptable leader who thrives in dynamic environments and is committed to continuous improvement.
