Job Summary:
This job involves a wide range of duties related to deposit accounts. It includes processing teller transactions; opening, maintaining, and closing accounts; responding to inquiries; managing cash handling equipment; and completing/reviewing certain system entries, reports, and control procedures. It requires full compliance with regulations, policies, and procedures, and adherence to Bank Secrecy Act reporting requirements. Duties include Branch Manager back-up for defined levels of lobby supervision.
Essential BSR Functions:
- Serves as back-up supervisor in the absence of the Branch Manager, seeking assistance from other officers on duty for situations exceeding authority levels.
- Opens new checking, savings, club, IRA, and CD accounts; closes accounts; and handles other online transactions for deposit applications.
- Performs data entry for new accounts and account maintenance.
- Handles inquiries from customers and personnel from other departments, by telephone and in person.
- Assists in processing overdrafts and returned items.
- Processes stop-payment orders and acknowledgements, notifying other departments and applying charges.
- Handles customer access to safe deposit boxes.
- Rents and closes safe deposit boxes as necessary.
- Processes rejects and exception reports.
- Assists in training new tellers and supporting co-workers’ issues that arise.
- Enters wire transfers on CBB system.
- Enters cash orders on CBB system.
- Has defined over-ride authority for tellers’ transactions.
- Has defined level of cashier’s check signing authority.
- Reviews daily maintenance logs and reports such as AML, debit card maintenance, and branch balancing.
- Has AML manager access to log cashier’s checks.
- Phones customers regarding CD renewals, dormant accounts, and suspicious debit card activity.
- Accesses balancing reports and balances any outages.
- Assists with branch audits as they occur.
- Performs notary services for customers as a licensed Notary Public.
- Cross-sells additional bank services appropriate to customer needs.
- Assists with other bank operations as needed, and performs other duties as may from time to time be required by the Branch Manager or Assistant Branch Manager.
Essential Teller Functions:
- Serves customers at a desk, processing a variety of transactions using judgment within defined limits regarding validity of transactions presented. Refers questionable transactions to the Branch Manager or Assistant Branch Manager..
- Receives commercial and individual checking deposits, verifies cash and endorsements, and issues receipts.
- Accepts checks for cashing and paying, verifies endorsement, validity, and funds, and makes change. Refers to Branch Manager on large or unusual transactions.
- Receives savings and club deposits; pays withdrawals after verifying balance and signatures.
- Receives mortgage, installment loan, or any other payments, checking the date due and assessing late charges when applicable. Refers to Loan Processor as needed.
- Sells cashier’s checks.
- Redeems U.S. Savings Bonds.
- Complies with provisions of the Bank Secrecy Act. Completes Currency Transaction Report on large cash transactions, and reports same to the Branch Manager. Maintains log on all cash transactions of $3,000 or more.
- Greets and assists or refers customers, in person or by phone, with any requested services, problems or concerns, in an efficient and courteous manner.
- Under dual control, verifies and replenishes funds in the cash-handling machine at specified intervals or as needed.
- Under dual control, lists night drop deposits daily and processes all transactions.
- Cross-sells bank services appropriate to customer needs.
- Assists new tellers in training, and co-workers having difficulties during the business day.
- Performs any other duties that may be assigned by the Branch Manager or Assistant Branch Manager.
Job Requirements:
- Generally requires three or more years of experience in all functions of a Bank Service Representative.
- High school diploma or equivalent, plus some business, accounting, and/or cash-handling experience.
- Honesty, integrity, and ability to meet and deal with the public in sales and problem- solving situations with superior customer service skills.
- Effective keyboard, computer, and calculator skills.
- Good filing procedures and proficiency at balancing accounts/transactions and handling money.
Physical/Mental Requirements:
· May be required to lift/carry up to 25 pounds of coin, computer paper, etc.
- May be required to stand, or sit, for extended periods of time.
- Must have visual acuity for continuous review of documents, currency, cash items, computer screen, reports, etc.
- Must have manual dexterity for keyboarding, calculating, and cash handling.
- Must remain calm and pleasant in all contact with customers and co-workers, in person or by phone.
- Must be able to concentrate and pay attention to detail for extended periods of time.
- Must possess good mathematical reasoning.
