Job DescriptionJob DescriptionDescription:

Gateway Rehab Center (GRC) has an outstanding opportunity for a part-time Patient Benefit Coordinator who performs all the duties related to patient insurance benefit verification and financial counseling for all GRC patients in all levels of care. This position does not supervise the work of others. This position receives frequent supervision and instruction.


Idea candidate will live close to Center Township or Washington, PA.


Responsibilities

  • Processes patient drug and alcohol insurance benefits, which include verifying, entering, and coordinating the benefits according to guidelines set by various insurance companies.
  • Obtains drug and alcohol benefit information from different sources including the Internet and phone calls as needed for various commercial payers.
  • Enters data in the EHR of all insurance/benefits information according to specific guidelines set by various insurance companies.
  • Prioritizes benefit checks for all withdraw management and inpatient as well as the outpatient satellite programs, county funding, self-pay and charity care. This includes documentation and verification of all required information.
  • Calculates all patient financial liabilities and discusses liability with appropriate patients prior to admissions or transfer to another level of care.
  • Collects prepayments in full or makes applicable payment arrangements with patients that are mutually acceptable with the patient and Gateway guidelines.
  • Coordinates and assists patient liability information with the Patient Access Coordinators and clinical managers.
  • Acts as a liaison between patients and the Patient Access Coordinators, accounting staff and Program Directors when liability issues are present.
  • Provides input to management in relation to liability issues and problem resolution.
  • Communicates effectively with all staff and departments in response to any inquires or outstanding requests.
  • Remains current with the organization rate code sheet and any applicable contractual rate changes which impact patient liability.
  • Performs general clerical duties as needed.
  • Attends appropriate trainings for current information and mandatory trainings and in-services.

  • Strong understanding of health care insurance/experience.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED.

Preferred Requirements

  • 3 years’ experience with benefits and insurance verification processes.

Other Requirements

  • Pass a PA Criminal Background Check.
  • Obtain PA Child Abuse and FBI Fingerprinting Clearances.
  • Pass Drug Screen.
  • TB Test.

Work Environment

  • The consequences of errors are potentially serious and costly to the organization.

  • Minimal physical demands which include significant computer usage and phone work.
  • Significant mental demands include extreme attention to detail and the requirements of payors, compassion and sensitivity to patients and family members.
