POSITION SUMMARY
The Vice President, Membership and Chapters plays a key role in planning, executing and assessing NDIA strategy and operations in support of NDIA short-, mid- and long-term goals and objectives. The Vice President plays a key role in NDIA’s Strategic Communications Strategy and Plan through identification of key topics for NDIA engagement, participation in NDIA and outside events, media engagement, writing for periodicals, authoring white papers, and engagements with key NDIA members and non-members.
As the leader of the Membership and Chapters business center, the Vice President oversees all planning, integration, execution and evaluation of NDIA Membership and Chapters programs. The Vice President helps build broad public awareness for NDIA and its affiliates, leading membership growth as well as revenue generation to sustain operations. The Vice President establishes revenue goals and implements programs and policies to ensure the team meets approved goals. The Vice President oversees development of the Membership and Chapters budget and ensures personnel adhere to the budget and all financial requirements. The Vice President supervises the annual assessment of NDIA’s Corporate Membership Strategy and provides direction for Strategy updates to ensure alignment with NDIA strategic objectives. The Vice President is the primary relationship builder and liaison with representatives from Corporate Members and Chapter leaders across the country.
The Vice President provides direct supervision for the Director, Membership and the Director, Chapters and provides coaching, mentorship and professional development support to Membership and Chapters personnel. The position requires substantial travel to Chapter events and industry trade shows. The Vice President, Membership and Chapters reports to the Executive Vice President/COO of NDIA.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversees all Membership and Chapters programs
- Leads and evaluates the Director, Membership and the Director, Chapters
- Oversees and approves expenses in accordance with the approved budget and Accounting Department guidance and timelines
- Conducts periodic feedback to ensure professional growth
- Performs mid-term reviews of Membership staff
- Identifies/defines personnel shortfalls and recommends mitigation strategies to the Executive Senior Vice President and President of NDIA
- Oversees development and implementation of Membership and Chapters strategy and programs
- Collaborates with Strategy and Policy, Meetings, Divisions and Business Partnerships, Marketing and Communications, and ETI, to develop and implement strategies to retain and increase individual and corporate membership
- Evaluates Membership and Chapter programs for effectiveness and efficiency and, in conjunction with NDIA stakeholders, leads change in support of NDIA objectives
- Identifies and oversees development and implementation of new tactics, techniques, and procedures to grow revenue
- Oversees and evaluates a comprehensive marketing program for membership recruitment, retention, and renewal of corporate and individual members
- Ensures effective integration within NDIA’s overall marketing strategy
- Identifies and oversees creation of member benefit programs and services and communicates them to members and prospective members
- Oversees NDIA Connect operations and initiatives to strengthen and amplify Membership programs and strategies
- Establishes strategic outreach and communications in support of NDIA goals and objectives.
- Represents NDIA programs and positions to agencies, organizations and the general public
- Authors articles, reports and white papers on issues and challenges impacting the defense industrial base
- Establishes relationships with senior executives/Flag Officers in government and industry
- Establishes relationships and bring NDIA understanding to senior leaders in the military
- Establishes relationships, explore MOUs and bring NDIA understanding to the defense, tech, non-profit/ and think tank sectors
- Oversees NDIA website management
- Conducts outreach with news organizations and media to promote NDIA activities
- Employs social media and networking sites/activities to promote NDIA and grow membership
- Develops and employs tools and toolkits to improve communication with and between chapters
- Develops effective collateral materials and messaging/outreach plans to promote NDIA and its objectives
- Oversees development and implementation of Membership and Chapters strategy and programs
- Supports the Membership Committee of NDIA’s Board of Directors’ Executive Committee
- Oversees development of Standard Operating Procedures to document NDIA Membership and Chapters operating procedures and processes
- Oversees the program and logistics for NDIA Membership and Chapters portion of NDIA’s annual Leadership Conference
- In conjunction with the NDIA President and Director of Finance, oversees Chapter Financial operations
- Develops, implements and assesses processes for Chapters with financial operations based at NDIA Headquarters (onsite financial operations)
- Develops, implements and assesses processes for Chapters with financial operations based in the Chapter’s local area (offsite financial operations)
- Leads development of Membership and Chapters annual budget
- Ensures Membership team understands and adheres to Accounting Department’s annual timeline and processes
- Collaborates with other Business Centers to ensure complementary budgets across NDIA
- Proposes defends Membership and Chapter’s budget to NDIA leadership
- Oversees the monthly budget forecast
- Collaborates with Meetings, Events, Partnerships, and Divisions and Marketing and Communications to prioritize NDIA participation in non-NDIA events and trade shows
- Oversees staff travel to trade shows
- Prioritizes workload and travel budget
- Support NDIA MARCOM
- Assist with the strategic vision of NDIA
- Build broad public awareness of NDIA
- Provide counsel and inputs on strategy, execution and stakeholder engagements
- Assist in shaping high-level, NDIA-wide events and programs
- Supports NDIA strategic objectives by performing duties as assigned
- Oversees staff travel to trade shows
RELATIONSHIPS
- Reports to NDIA’s Executive Vice President
- Collaborates with the EVP for Strategy and Policy on all areas of common interest
- Collaborates with SVP Meetings, Divisions & Business Partnerships on all areas of common interest
- Collaborates with SVP Marketing and Communication on all matters related to NDIA Marketing, Communications and outreach
- Maintains cooperative working relationship with all NDIA and NDIA Affiliate staff members
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED
- Master’s Degree
- National Security Studies or Related field [Preferred]
- Minimum of 20 years’ experience in National Security Leadership position
- Minimum 15 years staff supervision
- Demonstrated exceptional interpersonal and team building skills
- Demonstrated exceptional critical thinking skills
- Demonstrated exceptional public speaking skills
- Demonstrated exceptional written and oral communication skills
- Information Technology skills
- Experience with Word, Excel and PowerPoint [Required]
