The National Grain and Feed Association (NGFA) represents approximately 900 member companies in the grain, oilseed, feed milling, processing, biofuels, integrated livestock, brokerage, transportation and affiliated industries. The Vice President, Feed and Sustainability will lead NGFA’s efforts and activities in the feed and sustainability policy and regulatory arenas and commercial business sector. 


Position Description and Benefits: The NGFA is hiring for the position of Vice President, Feed and Sustainability. Final title and salary commensurate with work experience. This position is full-time and can be based in the Arlington, VA office or remotely in a location easily accessible to a high number of NGFA member companies with feed businesses. 


Position Summary: Serves as NGFA’s principal interface with member companies and regulatory officials on feed and sustainability issues. Principal staff contact with regulatory officials at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Food and Drug Administration, and state-level regulatory officials, including the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO). Serves as lead staff policy liaison to selected NGFA committees, including the Feed Committee, its Feed Legislative and Regulatory Affairs Subcommittee, the Feed Manufacturing and Technology Subcommittee, and the Sustainability Committee.  


Principal Responsibilities

  • Interact with regulatory officials on the range of issues important to feed company members of NGFA.
  • Identify and address issues and opportunities with a significant impact on companies involved in feed manufacturing and feeding operations.
  • Engage with key officials and other stakeholders involved with sustainability activities impacting the grain and feed industry.
  • Review and respond to government and private sector sustainability initiatives significant to NGFA members.
  • Primary contact with Food and Drug Administration headquarters and regional offices on feed and feed-related issues.
  • Serve as lead NGFA contact with AAFCO. Recruit and provide staff support for NGFA industry advisors to AAFCO committees. Attend AAFCO annual and mid-year meetings and other meetings as necessary. Develop NGFA responses to AAFCO initiatives.
  • Organize and conduct educational/training events that will further advance feed manufacturers’ adoption of feed safety and quality assurance principles.
  • Identify and develop feed- and sustainability-related educational materials and training programs relevant to NGFA members.
  • Work with NGFA’s Senior Vice President, Safety and Regulatory to identify safety, health and environmental issues important to the feed industry.
  • Coordinate meetings with appropriate regulatory officials during NGFA’s annual Washington, DC June fly-in.
  • Present updates at NGFA Executive Committee and Board of Directors meetings.
  • Collaborate with Director of Communications and Digital Media on the messaging and management of key issues impacting feed and sustainability.
  • Collaborate with Vice President, Marketing and Member Services to recruit and retain members.
  • Manage feed and sustainability content on the NGFA website, including official statements, in coordination with Director of Communications and Digital Media.
  • Interact and partner with other national trade associations to advance coalition efforts.
  • Collaborate with NGFA Affiliated State/Regional Associations to identify feed and sustainability issues with national and state policy implications.


Required Skills:

  • College degree and a minimum of ten years of experience in the feed required with experience in sustainability preferred.
  • Commercial feed experience not required but considered a plus.
  • Must reside close to the business operations of many NGFA feed members and/or the Washington, DC area.
  • Firm understanding of federal and state regulatory processes.
  • Understanding of U.S. and global agriculture and agribusiness.
  • Ability to work in a bipartisan capacity with stakeholders holding many different views.
  • Experience building coalitions with a demonstrated record of success.
  • Self-starter, able to work on multiple tasks in a rapidly changing environment with many responsibilities.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; social media savvy a plus.
  • Comfortable speaking to business leaders and C-Suite level executives.
  • Friendly, outgoing personality and ability to work on a team.
  • Willingness to travel 15 to 20 percent.
