Controls Field Technician Level Ones support the creation, maintenance, troubleshooting, or commissioning of controls systems. Field Tech Level Ones have the knowledge and practical application experience to quickly get involved in the many facets of controls projects. This position works directly with more senior technicians or engineers with direct supervision of tasks. Field Technicians must meet customer specifications and project deadlines.


Controls Field Technician Level Ones are under the tutelage of more senior personnel, it is expected that Field Techs will seek out training and materials to further their knowledge and experience. CLX Engineering employees enjoy a challenge, take the initiative, and want to grow with an organization that strives to move automation forward.


Although this is a level one position, candidates must know how to read electrical schematics and have some familiarity with PLCs. We cannot teach someone who has no experience at all. Individuals who have wired control panels in the past and have been exposed to programmable logic controllers tend to well.


CLX Engineering's Control Field Technician I is a non-exempt hourly paid position. Candidates will be working in sometimes extreme heat/cold conditions and physically dirty or grimy work environments, There are long hours of consistent standing and walking around, over, and through manufacturing equipment, and some days where there is a lot of sitting. Candidates should expect to work both day AND middle of the night shifts.


The Controls Field Technician Level One is responsible for the following:

  • Execution of electrical theory application (how it works) and electrical practices (wiring and devices) at a proficient level
  • Accurately reading, interpreting, and installing customer specifications and meeting project deadlines working with CLX team. Field Techs oversee and work with electricians to meet installation requirements as well.
  • Troubleshooting 480-volt AC to as low as 24-volt DC systems.
  • Traveling both in and out of the Central Florida area to meet project demands
  • Practicing safety processes using personal protection equipment (PPE) appropriate to the situation
  • Utilizing hand tools proficiently such as screwdrivers, wrenches, etc.
  • Operating electrical testing devices (multi-meters)
  • Employing common computer software effectively (Microsoft office, internet, etc.)
  • Making the most of basic observation and problem-solving abilities
Requirements:

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Some experience as a Panel Builder or Controls Field Technician Installing, maintaining, repairing and wiring on electrical systems
  • Experience working and troubleshooting 480-volt AC to 24-volt DC systems
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • A clean driving record and the ability to carry required insurance liability coverage.
  • Ability to work non-standard hours (nights and weekends) when required
  • A willingness and ability to pass a background check for employment with CLX Engineering and for our clients as requested
  • Ability to travel out of the Central Florida area with little notice on occasion; travel between 40% and up to 80% depending on project.
  • Work in: temperature extremes, tight spaces, noisy areas, dirty manufacturing environment.
  • Sit and/or stand for long periods of time and able to easily get around varying levels of manufacturing equipment including climbing ladders.
  • Ability to pass initial and random drug screenings.
  • A professional appearance and good communication skills.

Desired skills &/or qualifications

  • Experience on airport, entertainment or other automated facilities or project inspecting, installing or trouble shooting electrical systems or components.
  • AS in an electrical field or related mechanical field
