SHIFT LEAD TECHNICIAN


Areas of Responsibilities and Duties:

Operational Oversight

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the assigned shift, ensuring smooth workflow, optimal resource allocation, and timely completion of repairs and maintenance
  • Enforce standardized processes, procedures, and safety protocols to enhance operational excellence
  • Oversee fellow technicians on assigned shift

Reporting and Communication

  • Foster clear and open communication channels across shifts
  • Safely operate company vehicles (if approved and an authorized driver)
  • Safely test drive customer vehicles
  • Aptitude in using various hand tools, power tools and precision measurement tools (e.g. calipers)
  • Analyze and diagnose mechanical issues
  • Problem solve and create a plan of action for all repairs
  • Follow checklists and protocols while conducting repairs
  • Regularly clean and maintain tools and equipment
  • Clean and perform housekeeping duties of mobile unit and working areas. Includes sweeping, cleaning, and trash removal
  • Document problem/complain/solution
  • Ensure a safe, organized, and tidy workspace
  • Support coworkers, able to work as part of a team and get along with co-workers
  • Follow all health and safety rules and guidelines, as well as common sense safety practices
  • Able to inspect the work of other to determine if repair work was performed according to industry standards
  • Able to instruct others how to perform repairs according to industry standards
  • Perform routine maintenance on trucks/vehicles and related equipment
  • Knowledge of all vehicle mechanical systems (e.g. transmission, exhaust, electrical)
  • Inspect trucks/vehicles and related equipment and identify faulty parts
  • Familiarity with common diagnostic equipment
  • Problem solve and document an action plan for all repairs and follow checklists and protocols while conducting repairs.
  • Ensure a safe, organized, and tidy workspace, including regularly cleaning and maintaining tools and equipment.
  • Follow all health and safety rules and guidelines, as well as common sense safety practices.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as support coworkers, able to work as part of team and work well with co-workers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and Requirements:

  • Must be able to read and write in English in order to document diagnosis/solutions and communicate with managers and complete reports as needed.
  • Must be computer literate and able to navigate multiple software platforms utilized by the company
  • Posses a valid driver’s license; if required to drive
  • Possesses an acceptable driving record according to company’s Driver Fleet Policy; if required to drive
  • Must be “insurable” according to our current insurance company’s requirements (acceptable driving record, meets age minimum and age maximum requirements); if required to drive
  • Must be able to read and write in English in order to document
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Vocational/ Trade-School certification preferred
  • ASE certifications highly desired
  • Minimum of two years as Tech 2 or higher classification; see Tech Classification requirements
  • Owns and cultivates collection of required tools of the trade: meets or exceeds tool requirements for Tech 2 classification; see Tech Classification requirements
  • Able to pass pre-employment knowledge or skill testing designed to determine probability of success on the job and mechanic classification
  • Attention to detail

  • Proven mechanical acuity and basic math skills
  • Able to pass 10-year background check.
  • Able to pass drug test/medical physical exam
  • Must have own tools plus Safety Glasses, Steel-toed shoes, and Hearing Protection.
  • Physical Demands/Abilities performed throughout the duration of the work shift.

Heavy Work- Exerting up to 100lbs of force occasionally and/or up to 50lbs of force frequently or up to 20lbs of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including other job related items.
Walking/Standing for sustained periods of time.
Climbing – Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like, using entire body
Stooping/Crouching – Bending body downward and forward by bending at the waist, legs, and spine.
Balancing – Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling.
Kneeling/Crawling – Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee(s) or moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet.
Whole Hand/Fingers – Picking, pinching, typing with fingers and grasping with the fingers and palm.
Repetitive Motion – Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
Talking – Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word to others accurately and quickly when necessary.
Hearing – Receiving detailed information through oral communication at normal speaking levels with or without correction.
Vision – Close visual acuity to perform activities such as reading, using measurement devices, viewing electronic devices, assembling, inspecting small parts and/or operating machines and power tools, operate a motor vehicle and determine the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of work performed.

Work Environment: Work is performed in a shop; both indoors and outdoors. Activities occur inside and outside and are subject to work environments that are not climate controlled, weather, and hot/cold temperature changes, dirt, dust, soot and possibly mold, loud noise, and ladders to use for high heights. Potential hazards such as moving vehicles, proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, high places, high heat, and exposure to chemicals, atmospheric conditions (e.g. fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases), or poor ventilation, or a workspace may be exposed to smoke residue, mold and mildew, contaminated water, or other unsanitary conditions as well as being in closed quarters/confined spaces (e.g. crawl spaces, small, enclosed rooms, attics, etc.)
