Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Arc ECT runs a six-week program at Camp Harkness for individuals with developmental disabilities. We are seeking nurses to fill a variety of positions in support of this summer program.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Graduate of an Accredited school of Nursing
Minimum of 3-5yrs exp. in a clinical setting, preferably serving individuals with developmental and physical disabilities. Experienced with DDS regulations, forms, and protocols. Proficiency with Microsoft office suite.
Physical Requirements
The Camp Nurse must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds. She/he will be required to participate in lifts, transfers, and behavioral or physical intervention during unusual or emergency situations. She/he may be exposed to risk of injury or exposure to occupational health hazards.
Essential Functions
- Review all medical paperwork to ensure completeness of forms
- Provide staff training including Blood borne pathogens, direct care, medical needs, food consistency, seizures, allergies, asthma, and Epi-pen administration.
- Intake all camper medication on registration day- checks labels to ensure medications match Dr’s orders on file- ensure accuracy of printed Kardex’s- follow up with physicians as needed if discrepancies noted. Monitor medication supplies and notify care providers if additional medications are needed.
- Arrange and organize topical bins of medications approved to be administered by non-certified personnel and orient staff on proper administration.
- Provide a list of campers scheduled to receive medication at each interval.
- Pour and Pass medications at each interval according to Med Admin procedures.
- Document med pass in camper Kardex following each interval.
- Provide first aid to campers and staff as necessary.
- Provide emergency treatment- assess campers ability to remain at camp following injury or illness.
- Submit nursing log for review by Camp Physician weekly.
- Consult with camp physicians as needed to treat camper health conditions that arise during session.
- Consult with individuals primary care physicians as needed.
- Monitor completion of daily health checklists (completed by counselors).
- Provide a copy of camper medical documentation to care providers.
- Return unused medication to care provider at the close of the session..
Expectations
- Ensures confidentiality as required by law and The Arc and DDS policies and procedures which includes keeping records, conversations, correspondence (regarding program participants and staff) confidential.
- Maintains a mature and positive attitude when dealing with program participants, staff, families, the public, and outside representatives.
- Advocates for and protects participants’ rights in accordance with Arc policies and procedures.
- Treats all individuals in an age-appropriate manner, with respect and dignity, and to encourage opportunities that promote choice.
- Carries out all job responsibilities in a professional manner.
- Attends weekly staff meetings.
- Will report concerns to Supervisors in a timely manner.
- Will follow camp dress code.
