New York, United States Precision Neuroscience Full time
Job DescriptionJob DescriptionDescriptionAbout Precision Neuroscience  Precision is building a direct connection between the human brain and computers, to benefit the hundreds of millions of people worldwide suffering from neurological conditions. Established in 2021, we are a leader in the development and commercialization of brain–computer interfaces (BCI).  As a Precision employee, you will be collaborating with experts across a diverse array of fields–including neurosurgery, mechanical engineering, machine learning, and microfabrication–to push the boundaries of what is possible. You will be joining a well capitalized and fast-moving company. In the two years since Precision’s founding, we have built and validated a product and have begun human trials in partnership with some of the country’s leading neurosurgery programs. And you will be working toward a deeply meaningful goal: restoring function to people living with devastating neurological conditions, including stroke, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, and neurodegenerative disease such as ALS. Our platform will enable these individuals to regain independence, communicate with loved ones, and return to work.
We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Surgery Hardware team to support a diverse collection of hardware projects for both research and clinical use. This position will suit a versatile engineer with experience with a multitude of mechanical design disciplines, such as, but not limited to, injection molded electronics enclosures, pneumatic systems, liquid and compression silicone molding, sheet metal parts, and CNC machined parts.

This position will be on-site in Manhattan, New York.  We are unable to consider remote workers.  You must be currently in the United States with working rights to apply.

We require applicants to provide their portfolio, you will be asked for this in the application questionnaire. You will be declined for this role if you do not provide your portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
  • Support the design and development of implantable hardware and custom surgical instruments to assist our novel minimally invasive surgical procedure to deploy our electrode array onto the brain cortical surface.
  • Lead the design and development of hardware systems that are critical for collecting neural data in our in vivo research as well as our clinical collaborations.
  • Gather input from experts at existing surgical navigational systems, liaise with surgeons and other specialists in the field.
  • Complete hands-on assembly, integration and testing tasks while ensuring rigorous quality control is being enforced.
  • Collaborate with the rest of our team to publish and present our work.
  • Create and update end-user technical documentation, product specifications and vendor procedures to ensure we are compliant with relevant regulations.

Requirements
  • BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering (ME), Biomedical Engineering (BME) or similar.
  • 5+ years of industry experience in mechanical engineering roles, preferably in the medical device industry.
  • Expert in rapid prototyping using tools such as FDM and SLA 3D printers, laser cutters, manual milling machines, etc, and a track record of working towards accelerated timelines
  • Diverse experience of engineering disciplines ranging from pneumatics, electronics, silicone molds, injection molded plastics, sheet metal, and CNC parts.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills; able to collaborate with neuroscientists, neurosurgeons, and electrical, software, materials, and bio engineers.
  • Proficient in CAD (we use SolidWorks)

  • You should be comfortable with creative problem solving, collaborating, and taking charge of projects from concept to production.
