Taylor Shellfish Farms is one of the largest producers of farmed shellfish in North America.  The company is quickly growing in sustainable shellfish farming with new techniques and innovative growing methods.  

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION 

As the Geoduck Farm Supervisor, you are responsible for implementing farm plans by directing and leading two crews of about 5-15 individuals. You will assist the farm manager in developing planting and maintenance plans that meet the operational goals of the farm. As the Geoduck Farm Supervisor, you will also be responsible for making adjustments to crew schedules in order to maximize productivity and accommodate disruptions to operations such as weather and equipment constraints. Crew supervision is the primary function of this position.    


RESPONSIBILITIES, DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS 

  • Work with the Farm Manager to set planting and maintenance schedules and relay work schedule information to the crew. 
  • Work directly with one or both maintenance crews on a daily basis to ensure operations are meeting quality and production expectations.  
  • Be aware and knowledgeable of safety & ECOP rules and ensure crews are following accordingly.  
  • Keep daily records of crew production and farm information. 
  • Help Crew Leads manage timesheets and make corrections as needed.   
  • Oversee day-to-day details in making the farm run more efficiently and work with upper management to develop streamlined SOPs for new farming techniques. 
  • Attend geoduck department tide run scheduling meetings.  
  • Assist Farm Manager with farm husbandry tasks, such as seed survival samples, growth samples, beach checks, etc.   
  • Other duties as assigned by the manager. 


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES  

  • Position requires experience working on a shellfish farm.  Geoduck farming preferred.  
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a crew of 5-15 individuals  
  • Organization and planning skills   
  • Strong communication skills  
  • Ability to work independently  
  • Strong and sound decision-making skills   
  • Must maintain positive crew morale   
  • Regular, reliable, predictable attendance   
  • Ability to work outdoors in ALL weather conditions  
  • Must have competent boating skills including trailering and launching boats at a ramp 
  • Time of day is variable with the tides, and often includes full or partial weekends 
  • General understanding of Microsoft Office – Word, Excel and Outlook – or the ability and desire to be trained in this area.   


JOB & SAFETY REQUIREMENTS   

  • Safety training required  
  • Pass training (forklift, boat operator certification, tractor training, etc.)  
  • Must have Wash. State boaters card 
  • Must have a clean driving record to qualify for company insurance 
  • 21 years or older  

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS  

  • Ability to sit, stand and/or walk on uneven terrain up to 8 hours per day.   
  • The employee may be required to stoop, bend, kneel, twist, and squat 30 percent of the time  
  • The employee needs to be able to lift up to 50 lbs. (Regularly required to exert up to 20lbs or force, frequently required to exert up to 50 lbs. of force, occasionally required to exert up to 125 lbs. of force)   
  • The vision requirements include: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus  
  • Must be able to speak and hear well enough to communicate with co-workers, supervisors and managers  
  • Must be able to use hands for repetitive simple grasping, pushing, pulling and fine manipulation  
  • Must have agility and balance to safely climb on machines, boats, etc.
