SUMMARY OF POSITION

In collaboration with a team of ePac plant level trainers, the Operator Training Lead creates, validates, delivers, and provides oversight of the overall training framework for production asset operation.  In this position, the Operator Training Lead determines and sets ePac standards and best practices to ensure a consistent learning and development experience and utilizes a “train the trainer” model for training standard implementation at the local plant level.  This individual is responsible for setting the standards of all aspects of a machine operator training program, from building of training curriculum to delivery of the content, and is responsible for measuring and assessing the effectiveness of the training program.  This position requires continuous upskilling in the incumbents area of production asset expertise and keeping up-to-date technically.  It also includes the responsibility to reincorporate any new processes and to updates to the production asset training program to ensure the curriculum is current. The Operator Training Lead coaches and mentors and makes sure plant level trainers are proficient in machine operations. This job requires making connections with people, motivating and inspiring them to achieve results.  This position involves driving towards results by enrolling the commitment and buy-in of others. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Works closely with the VPs of Operations, Plant Directors, Plant Trainers, Process Improvement Teams, and Quality Teams, to develop, deliver and enforce a standardized machine operators curriculum and training program for plant level trainers
  • Responsible for the delivery of training of two or more of the machines (Press, Laminator, Combi, Slitter, Pouching Machine) involved in the production of the finished goods  
  • Responsible for evaluating effectiveness of the machine operator training program
  • Presents information with a variety of instructional techniques or formats utilizing ePac’s Learning and Development  Standardization Framework
  • Develops and maintains relevant training procedure manuals, guides, course materials, handouts, visual materials
  • Develops and administers knowledge assessments and proficiency tests 
  • Required to keep skills up-to-date.  This includes actively operating the machinery for a minimum of three days per month to ensure hands-on experience and keeping current with the latest techniques.
  • Works with machine vendors to incorporate information about new products, procedures or any new trials
  • Provides written and verbal communication to plant level and corporate management
  • Requires knowledge and skill in how to successfully influence and persuade others by understanding how their individual needs and motivations link to goals is essential
  • Requires a high degree of “selling”, whether of ideas and policies within ePac, or products or services in packaging.
  • Attend educational workshops, expos, review publications, visit manufacturing partners as needed
  • Maintains a safe and healthy training environment by following organization standards and guidelines
  • Other duties and projects may be assigned as required
 

JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Expert technical skills in at least 2 current machines with a strong focus to learn more machines

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

  • Minimum 2+ years of work-related on the job experience running machines in packaging industry
  • Bachelor’s degree in technical area preferred, or related experience in lieu thereof
  • Experience with needs assessments, course development, design, and presentation/facilitationof training courses
  • Ability to engage, lead and influence 
  • Strong communication skills 
  • Experience using an ERP system preferred, such as Microsoft Business Central or equivalent
  • Training or teaching background

WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Up to 60% travel may be required for this position, as you will be responsible for conducting training, audits, and evaluations at our plant sites.  Please note that travel requirements may decrease over time as our organization adapts its training structure and strategies to meet evolving needs and promote operational excellence.
  • International travel may be required - Must have or be able to obtain passport.
