Job Summary:
The CNC Maintenance Technician – Millwright / CNC Machinist is a key technical position responsible for maintaining, repairing, and operating CNC machinery and other industrial equipment. This role ensures the smooth and efficient operation of our production processes by performing preventive and predictive maintenance, repairing critical equipment, and completing mechanical upgrades. Additionally, the CNC Machinist responsibilities include setting up and operating CNC machines to produce precision parts, analyzing specifications, and assembling parts to fabricate and repair various tools and equipment. This dual-role position requires a versatile individual skilled in both CNC maintenance and machining.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
As a CNC Maintenance Technician – Millwright:
- Repair CNC machinery, manual machines, and machining centers.
- Install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain machine tool equipment and controls.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot hydraulics, electronics, software, electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical systems.
- Use machine tool manuals, technical documents, and internal and vendor resources to research and resolve machine issues.
- Identify and replace defective parts as needed.
- Perform testing and adjustments on parts to ensure proper function.
- Conduct planned and preventive maintenance procedures (PM).
- Overhaul, rebuild, and assemble a variety of plant equipment, including CNC machines, hydraulics, modular assembly equipment, precision-built machines, material handling equipment, stationary generator sets, and process equipment.
- Coordinate with external suppliers and maintenance companies to ensure timely and accurate completion of work.
- Respond with urgency to machine down conditions to minimize production downtime.
- Collaborate with production teams to develop and adhere to a preventive maintenance schedule.
- Perform general facilities maintenance as required.
As a CNC Machinist:
- Analyze specifications, lay out metal stock, set up, and operate machine tools.
- Operate fabricating machines such as cutoff saws, shears, spinning machines, punch and CNC equipment to shape, cut, and bend sheets, tubes, and structures.
- Set up and operate CNC machines to perform tasks such as drilling, grinding, milling, etc.
- Read and interpret blueprints to understand product specifications.
- Inspect finished products for quality and ensure they meet required specifications.
- Perform routine maintenance on machines to ensure they operate efficiently.
- Use precision measuring instruments like micrometers and bore gauges to verify product quality.
- Utilize Lean manufacturing principles to optimize production processes.
Minimum Requirements and Qualifications:
- High School Diploma required; Skilled Trade Certification preferred.
- 2+ years of proven experience as an Industrial Maintenance Technician or similar role within a manufacturing or production environment.
- Previous experience operating CNC machines, particularly milling machines preferred.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems, with experience in CNC machine tool repair, particularly with FANUC, Siemens, and OEM controls.
- Experience with PLC/HMI systems, vacuum systems, man lifts, and forklifts preferred.
- Proficiency in using hand and power tools for repairs and maintenance tasks.
- Ability to read and interpret part manuals, electrical and mechanical schematics, assembly instructions, and troubleshooting guides.
- Advanced knowledge of CNC machine design, operation, and preventative maintenance programs.
- Familiarity with assembling and fabricating parts and using precision measuring instruments.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex equipment breakdowns in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude, including the ability to read electrical and hydraulic schematics.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and effectively in a team environment.
- Good manual dexterity and ability to lift at least 35 pounds unassisted.
- Flexibility to work various shifts and weekends as needed.
- Strong commitment to safety and adherence to safety protocols.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provide technical support for CNC machine tool systems, focusing on Fanuc control systems.
- Inspect, diagnose, repair, and align basic CNC machine tool systems.
- Maintain a basic understanding of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic circuits.
- Ensure compliance with all safety guidelines and protocols in day-to-day activities.
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs to maintain optimal machine performance.
Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to multitask and manage time effectively in a dynamic environment.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to communicate effectively with team members and management.
