Position Summary: Function at all times as a Pre-IL team member effectively implementing the policies and procedures of the treatment milieu.

Qualifications: A. Education Requirements: Relevant college training, preferably BA/BS in Human Services field.

B. Experience Requirements: 1. At least one year work experience with at-risk adolescents in a residential treatment program or similar program. Substantial experience is preferred. 2. Physical Demand and Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear. The employee is required to walk or stand. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. 5. Ability to read, write and converse in English. 6. Must know basic word processing with competency required to utilize agency computer. 7. Valid driver’s license and insurability by Boys’ Haven Insurance carrier. 8. Ability to respond to telephone and other auditory stimulation. 9. At least 21 years of age and legally able to work in U.S. 10.Successful completion of background screening and pre-employment drug screen. 11.Successful negative TB screening.

Responsibilities: A. Treatment 1. Actively assist youth to reach his/her goals by listening, teaching and counseling. 2. Provide youth clear expectations and directions, exercising appropriate authority when necessary. 3. Deal with problems in a calm, patient and understanding manner, seeking assistance when necessary. 4. Insure youth are made aware of Boys’ & Girls’ Haven rules and consequences for infractions, allowing youth the opportunity to explain behavior before consequences are given. 5. Use specific constructive feedback to youth regarding their behavior and progress. 6. Participate in weekly team meetings and display an understanding of each youth’s problems, goals and progress. 7. Conduct or participate in group and individual meetings with youth to teach specific skills regarding problem solving, living, special projects and basic life skills. 8. Insure information regarding youth and family is kept confidential. 9. Be familiar with contents of daily log and schedule and supervise youth accordingly, including exchange of information with previous and on-coming staff regarding specific problems and instructions. 10.Record significant events, behaviors (positive and negative), activities and youth’s movement in/out of cottage (e.g., bed checks on evening shifts, whereabouts log, sign out sheet, home visitation request, off campus work sheets). 11.File incident reports, notifying appropriate parties as necessary (e.g., physical force, AWOL procedure). 12.Insure that all forms such as community adjustments, school forms, visitor logs and sign out books are used per policy, reminding youth when needed.

B. House, Food and Safety 1. Conduct monthly fire drills and check fire safety equipment and report any problems for immediate attention/repair. 2. As assigned, explain to youth all emergency procedures and insure procedures are followed in case of emergency. 3. Insure cottage is clean, neat and in good repair (e.g., using maintenance list when needed). 4. As assigned, conduct room inspections. 5. Exercise proper care of equipment, such as thermostats, automobiles, phones, washers and dryers. 6. Transport youth in agency vehicles, including use of key sign in and out sheets, mileage logs, and being sure to leave vehicle in good condition. 7. Insure that cottage is secured upon leaving cottage vacant, call forwarding is utilized and cell phone is operational. 8. As assigned, serve on various committees as representatives of youth and staff.

C. Medical 1. Ensure through teaching, monitoring and modeling that appropriate hygiene expectations are met. 2. Ensure medical, dental and mental health appointments are made and kept (transporting if needed), and noted in clients chart (in accordance with licensing and agency standards).  3. Seek and/or follow medical instructions and/or prescriptions and record as needed. 4. Ensure medications are ordered in a timely manner to ensure medication administration is compliant with physician’s orders. 5. Follow emergency and routine medical procedures and ensure youth are provided with medical care and prescribed medication. 6. Ensure contents of medical supplies are complete per procedure. 7. Dispense medications as directed on the Medication Administration Record.

D. Documentation 1. Daily document (via KC) resident progress, issues, and any incidents. 2. Daily document cleanliness and/or cottage maintenance issues. 3. Daily document complete time sheets. 4. Daily document group participation, cottage issues, incident reports, medication and staff-to-staff communication.
