Job Purpose:
The Deer Park Refinery Process Operator is responsible for monitoring, controlling and conducting activities that pertain to unit operation and taking corrective action when necessary to ensure that all unit conditions and operations follow Deer Park Refinery safety, environmental and operating policies and procedures.

Accountabilities & Responsibilities
  • Ensure strict compliance with Deer Park Refinery’s safety policies and procedures, taking immediate corrective action in the event a potential issue or unsafe behavior is observed.
  • Ensure strict compliance with Deer Park Refinery’s federal, state and local regulatory requirements, taking immediate corrective action to prevent or correct a non-compliant condition.
  • Required outside job duties include physical manipulation and maintenance (corrective, predictive and preventative) of a unit’s equipment. Monitoring and accurately recording temperatures, pressures, and rates. Sampling and testing of the various streams processed in those same units. Inside job duties include utilization of distributed controls systems to remotely monitor and manipulate the control instrumentation of a unit to ensure operation within design/engineering limits targeting optimal economic conditions.
  • Ensure proper continuous shift operation through effective written and oral communications to fellow shift operators/supervision as well as the oncoming shift team in regard to unit operational status, equipment status, optimization efforts, plan deviations and abnormal situation response.
  • Fluent use of computer technology such as desktop computers and mobile devices (tablets and cell phones) is required to accomplish this.
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts of potential issues for the equipment and processes in your area of responsibility and assist fellow shift personnel in their similar efforts.
  • Qualify and maintain proficiency on a minimum of three different operating jobs including a console operator job.
  • Qualify and maintain proficiency to issue work permits of all levels required by site permit to work rules.
  • Participate in training for and response to emergency situations as required.
  • Actively comply with all site policies and procedures.
  • Assist other personnel when needed.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications:
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis without the requirement of a work visa
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must have a minimum of a high school diploma.
  • Must possess a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in the United States
  • Must currently hold or be able to qualify to receive a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card. Note, information regarding TWIC qualification standards may be found at TWIC® | Transportation Security Administration (tsa.gov)
  • As a part of the pre-employment selection process, candidates are required to submit to and receive satisfactory results from all pre-employment background,drug, medical, and reference checks, including hair and oral fluids drug testing.
  • Testing will be utilized in the application screening process to evaluate aptitude for the position.
  • Must be able to speak, read and write English proficiently.
  • Must be interested in qualifying for a console operator job.
  • Must be interested in qualifying for a Permit writer role.​​​​​​
  • Required to work a rotating shift work schedule.
  • Required to work overtime, holidays, nights, and weekends.
  • Required to be on call and meet call-out standards to respond to site staffing responsibilities and emergencies.
  • Required to work outside in inclement weather conditions.
  • Required to work during regional events such as hurricanes, floods, winter storms and pandemics.
  • Required to work while wearing an air purifying respirator or a supplied air breathing apparatus.
  • Required to work at heights on permanent/temporary platforms at elevations of several hundred feet access to which is provided by ladders, stairs or elevators.
  • Required to work in compact and confined spaces.
  • Required to respond to emergencies as part of the Emergency Response Team. Successful candidates must reside within 60 minutes of the site or be willing to relocate to within 60 minutes of the site without relocation assistance to respond to emergencies.
  • Required to conduct themselves at work in a manner that values and encourages the principles of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
  • Must have a minimum of three (3) years of current experience (within the last 5 years) as a Process/Production Operator in a catalyst, petrochemical or refining work environment OR Associate of Applied Science degree in Process Technology OR honorable discharge military service with equivalent experience that relates to manufacturing.
