Location: Round Rock, Texas

Available Shifts: 4 days per week, 10-hour shifts

Job Summary:


We are seeking an experienced Surgical Technologist to join our Labor & Delivery (L&D) team. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing the operating room, assisting the surgical team during procedures, and ensuring all surgical instruments and equipment are properly maintained and sterilized. Your expertise in surgical procedures, sterile techniques, and team collaboration will be essential in providing exceptional care to our patients.


Essential Functions of the Role:


  • Discuss any special needs with the surgeon before surgery and scrub into surgery in a timely manner for proper preparation of instruments.
  • Prepare the operative site aseptically, including cleaning and patient clipping as needed.
  • Organize and maintain the instrument table, ensuring all instruments are accounted for and in good condition.
  • Set up the operating room according to surgical procedure schedules, carefully selecting and opening only the needed supplies.
  • Scrub for cases in all major surgical services, utilizing advanced knowledge of anatomy, surgical instruments, and surgeon preferences.
  • Ensure the proper functioning of surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies during procedures.
  • Perform surgical counts of sponges, sharps, instruments, and other items according to established policies.
  • Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and surgical team, providing sterile supplies and equipment as needed.
  • Assist with draping and positioning the patient and handle surgical specimens according to protocol.
  • Disassemble surgical instrumentation after the procedure and prepare soiled instruments for transportation to the decontamination area.
  • Ensure the cleanliness and proper maintenance of the operating room, surgical instruments, and supplies.
  • Follow infection control policies, AORN recommendations, OSHA guidelines, and other regulatory requirements to ensure a safe work environment.


Key Success Factors:


  • Knowledge of infection prevention and regulatory sterilization standards.
  • Proficiency in sterile and aseptic techniques.
  • Understanding of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and tools to assist surgeons during operations.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively with surgical and central sterile processing teams.
  • Ability to handle occasional exposure to chemical and radiation hazards.
  • Successful completion of a CAAHEP-accredited or nationally accredited surgical technologist program with certification.


Qualifications:


  • Education: Graduate of an Accredited Program
  • Experience: 2 Years of Experience
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 30 days of hire or transfer.
  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification from NBSTSA or NCCT (if the educational program is CAAHEP accredited).
  • For candidates with experience prior to September 1, 2009, GAP and certification are not required.
