Duties
  • Assign emergency units to respond based on the nature of the call.
  • Obtain relevant emergency information (e.g., location of caller, type of fire, nature of medical emergency) for dissemination to appropriate personnel.
  • Maintain radio communication with responding emergency personnel and coordinate request for additional resources.
  • Coordinate with military and civilian agencies in response to mutual aid requests, in accordance with locally established protocols.
  • Screen incoming communications and prioritizes emergency/non-emergency calls and situations.
  • Perform crisis intervention with distraught emergency callers during hi-risk situations until emergency responders arrive on scene, in accordance with guidelines established locally.


Requirements
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
  • Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
GS-10
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

1) Advising and conferring with Director, Emergency Services, Fire Chief, Chief, Law Enforcement on issues relating to policies, technical communication/computerized equipment, protocols, and after-action assessment of dispatch operations
2) Responding to emergency 9-1-1 service calls, reporting unusual and non-routine fire, police, medical and hazardous incidents
3) Ensuring dispatchers obtain critical information about the situation, record information, determine the type and priority of responses, dispatch appropriate resources, and relay information to first responders
4) Ensuring that precise and accurate information is provided to first responders on all calls for service
5) Providing callers with accurate information and medically appropriate instructions before the arrival of Emergency Medical Services (EMS)
6) Monitoring/operating a Computer Aided Dispatch system (CAD), a multi-line telephone system, a multi-channel radio system, a multi-channel logging recorder, computerized security alarms, fire alarm systems, and Closed Circuit TV
7) Answering routine and emergency requests for service, evaluate the requests and dispatch appropriate police, fire, or medical units. Note: This information must be supported in your resume to be considered for this position.

GS-09
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

1) Dispatching appropriate emergency personnel
2) Utilizing emergency dispatch and radio communications
3) Coordinating with local and state public safety agencies
4) Enforcing the Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement (QA/QI) plan for the dispatch center
5) Supporting the development, instruction and coordination of an Emergency Dispatch Centers training program.
