We are looking for an Operations Engineering Manager with a strong manufacturing background to join our John C. Nordt team in Roanoke. This pivotal role is responsible for Engineering, Facilities, EHS, Maintenance, Toolroom, Tube Manufacturing, and Material Control. Reporting directly to the Plant Manager, you will lead and participate in continuous improvement efforts in these areas and oversee establishment of new processes to support new product development and cost reduction activities.

You will provide leadership and drive implementation and use of formalized business/production systems such as ERP, QMS, CMMS, and MES to meet objectives in safety, quality, delivery, and cost. This position is not just about maintaining the status quo; it's about driving innovation and operational excellence that aligns with the company's goals.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Lead development of current and future state production maps and continuous improvement plans
  • Ensure all business-critical projects are properly planned, scheduled, and on track
  • Drive Company strategy with Engineering, Maintenance and Production teams relative to process and equipment in order to improve production and quality of products
  • Evaluate team needs on an ongoing basis, i.e. staffing levels, training, equipment or tools and recommend additions or changes as necessary
  • Oversee activities related to manufacturing cost reduction, process improvement and scrap/rework reduction
  • Responsible for employee training plan for process operations and safety procedures
  • Develop and/or implement metrics and analytics for; safety, quality, delivery, and cost to drive improvement
  • Development of capital plan for areas of responsibility
  • Lead technical and engineering staff on New Product Development and Custom Engineered products
  • Validate manufacturing cost studies and cost reduction initiatives with regular reporting. This will include creating the necessary tools.
  • Support Customer Service and Finance in pricing calculations based on cost study data

Qualifications:

This position requires a blend of technical expertise and leadership skills. Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to analyze complex situations and develop effective solutions are crucial to this role.

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, industrial management or related discipline
  • 7+ years progressive experience working in a manufacturing environment
  • 3+ years of experience leading teams in a manufacturing setting
  • In-depth knowledge of manufacturing processes including machining and fabrication
  • Strong mathematical skills, such as probability and statistical interference, with the ability to manipulate data and generate reports
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, suppliers, internal and external customers
  • Confident in analyzing data and presenting findings to senior management
  • Working knowledge of operational ERP functions including Item Setup, BOMs, Production Routings, and Inventory Control
