Job Summary:


As the Engineering Department Head at Wellstar Health System, Inc., you will be responsible for directing the Engineering Department in support of the Wellstar mission. You will chair the Environment of Care Committee, implement EOC management plans, and assist the Safety Officer in reviewing policies. Your duties will include managing the safety surveillance program, directing planned and corrective maintenance on systems, and developing and implementing departmental policies and procedures. You will also coordinate contract maintenance and installations, critical systems preventative maintenance and repairs, and strive to achieve compliance with pertinent laws and regulations, including Joint Commission standards.


Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:


1. Department Day-To-Day Operations


a. Coordinate with supervisors to ensure the interior and exterior of assigned facilities meet established standards.


b. Facilitate interior signage programs, coordinating with department management to order replacement signage and supervise installation.


c. Schedule and conduct routine visits to maintain facilities to an established WellStar level of appearance and operation.


d. Maintain accurate logs and ledgers for local, state, and federal requirements and WellStar standards.


e. Take an active role in meeting the needs of facility management and communicate effectively with all levels of management.


f. Keep an accurate, updated list and status of WellStar West Georgia/Medical Group off-campus facilities.


g. Coordinate with leadership and supervisors to plan and implement equipment and system upgrades and replacements to avoid costly repairs and downtime.


h. Maintain testing records for utility systems (fire alarm, fire sprinkler systems, medical gas, backflows, generator, etc.).


2. Financial Planning


a. Assist with managing approved capital items/projects.


b. Develop operational and capital budgets for engineering and clinical engineering and assisting ancillary departments.


c. Understand and implement proper accounting procedures for charging parts and labor to the appropriate charge codes.


d. Evaluate, update, and implement changes to improve energy conservation.


e. Advise the department Director in long and short-term capital plans.


3. Department Operations


a. Coordinate with direct reports to schedule work duties in a timely, cost-efficient manner.


b. Review construction drawings for assigned facilities.


c. Complete special projects and assignments in a thorough and timely fashion.


d. Insure cost-effective control of parts and materials used for repairs.


e. Properly manage and coordinate with supervisors and team leaders, if applicable, on-call responsibilities and perform follow-up with written and verbal reports.


f. Special tasks as assigned.


4. Personnel Management


a. Schedule work duties in a timely, cost-efficient manner.


b. Comply with department shift start/stop and break times.


c. Evaluate personnel needs and changes.


d. Perform annual personnel evaluations and related duties.


Required Minimum Education:


Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a similar field is required, or other education certification from an accredited educational institute.


Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):


All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.


Required Minimum Experience:


Minimum 5 years in the mechanical, facilities, and people management field is required. Knowledge related to Joint Commission, CMS, and LSC Compliance is a plus.
