Credit Analyst Intern

Summary: Participants in the Summer Internship Program will learn about data use and commercial banking through making outbound calls, validating data, and initiating prospects. Interns will assist management in making informed credit decisions regarding existing and potential borrowers and may be responsible for the preparation and presentation of commercial credit requests by performing the following duties.
This internship is located at the Bank's Burr Ridge, Illinois location.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Specific internship responsibilities will be determined and depend on the needs of the department. Typical experiences may include but are not limited to:
- Performs commercial credit analysis by reviewing items including, but not limited to credit reports, personal and business financial statements and tax returns, appraisals, property inspections and environmental reports to complete loan presentations for approval consideration by the appropriate approval authority.
- Prepares and analyzes spreads of a company's financial statements to determine overall credit strengths and weakness of potential commercial credit customers. Analysis includes, but is not limited to debt-service ratio, current assets ratio, leverage ratios, cash flow analysis, fixed charge coverage and acid test ratio.
- Contacts the customer or customer's representative to obtain additional information or explanation detail throughout the underwriting process while coordinating with the Commercial Banker.
- Orders underwriting items including, but not limited to audit, TLJ and UCC searches, appraisal, environmental, flood certification, and property inspections from both internal and external sources.
- Identifies and assesses various business, industry and market risks to determine and categorize business trends, growth, cyclical nature, seasonality, business cycle and stages and apply findings to credit evaluation.
- Performs business sector analyses to evaluate the health and viability of a company based upon similar businesses and/or competitors.
- Records and maintains external vendor order costs in Vendor Services.
- Prepares loan files
- Makes calls to names on a list and confirms information such as phone numbers and other contact information, key information about multi-family property ownership and interest in discussing loan information. Schedules appointments between property owners and Commercial Bankers
Education/Experience
- Prefer a Sophomore or Junior college student pursuing a bachelor's degree in Finance, Marketing, Business, or Law or a student enrolled in a Master's program
- Self-starter with involvement in extra-curricular, community or university sponsored organizations
- Adaptability and the ability to learn quickly and handle unexpected challenges with maturity and professionalism
- Excellent written communication skills
- Excellent oral communication skills, including presentation skills
- Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills
- Strong organization skills, with acute attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Reliable to complete tasks on time with minimum guidance
- Value in data privacy and integrity
- Ability to make outbound calls in order to validate data and initiate prospects
Computer Skills
Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Outlook, spreadsheets, Internet software, database software
