Type: Part-Time

Position Mission:
The Part-Time Janitorial Staff member is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly environment at San Antonio STEAM Academy. This role ensures that all areas of the school, including classrooms, offices, restrooms, and common areas, are kept in excellent condition, supporting the health and well-being of students, staff, and visitors. The Janitorial Staff member plays a critical role in creating a welcoming atmosphere that reflects the school’s commitment to excellence.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred, but not required.
  • Previous experience in janitorial or custodial work is preferred.
  • Ability to pass a background check as required by the school district.

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of basic cleaning procedures, products, and equipment.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to complete tasks efficiently and to a high standard.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong time management skills to complete assigned tasks within specified time frames.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and work in a professional manner.
  • Basic knowledge of safety practices related to cleaning chemicals and equipment, including the proper handling of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
  • Ability to maintain accurate records of cleaning supplies and ensure proper labeling and storage of cleaning products according to TEA and OSHA guidelines.

Primary Purpose Summary:
The Part-Time Janitorial Staff member will perform routine cleaning tasks in assigned areas of the school, ensuring that the facility is clean and well-maintained. Responsibilities include sweeping, mopping, dusting, trash removal, and sanitizing surfaces, as well as reporting any maintenance or safety issues to the appropriate personnel.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Clean and sanitize restrooms, including toilets, sinks, mirrors, and floors.
  2. Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors in classrooms, hallways, and common areas.
  3. Dust and wipe down surfaces, including desks, countertops, windowsills, and furniture.
  4. Empty trash and recycling bins, replacing liners as needed.
  5. Refill supplies in restrooms, classrooms, and other areas as necessary (e.g., soap, paper towels, toilet paper).
  6. Clean windows, glass doors, and mirrors as assigned.
  7. Assist with setup and breakdown for school events or activities as needed.
  8. Report any maintenance or safety issues, such as broken fixtures or hazardous conditions, to the Facilities Manager or designated staff.
  9. Keep accurate records of cleaning supplies, including inventory management, and ensure proper storage of all cleaning products.
  10. Maintain and update Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for all cleaning products used on campus, ensuring compliance with TEA and OSHA regulations.
  11. Ensure that cleaning supplies and equipment are stored properly and securely.
  12. Follow all safety protocols related to the use of cleaning chemicals and equipment, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
  13. Participate in safety training and drills as required by the school and in accordance with TEA guidelines.
  14. Maintain a respectful and professional demeanor while interacting with students, staff, and visitors.
  15. Perform additional cleaning or maintenance tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
