FIND OUT ABOUT THIS ROLE AND OUR MISSION TO CREATE POSITIVE CHANGE

Reporting to the Behavioral Health Program Manager and under the appropriate clinical supervision, the Peer Support Specialist works closely with PSH and BHI staff, as well as external partners when appropriate and as directed, to support resident wellbeing. Responsibilities include serving as a community support liaison and assisting Plymouth residents in accessing various substance-related resources, including but not limited to abstinence and non-abstinence based recovery resources and harm reduction tools. The Peer Support Specialist assists with the collection of documentation, assessments, and other forms of data to support services and other resident supports and programming. Supported by licensed clinicians and their Program Manager in the Behavioral Health Integration dept., this role offers direct resident support through group facilitation and resident counseling, within the scope of their credentials and role and in alignment with the Plymouth SUD Services Model.

Plymouth Housing is a non-profit organization with apartment buildings throughout King County helping the most vulnerable members of our community leave homelessness behind forever. At Plymouth, we’re not simply trying to get people off the streets. We provide supportive services like case management and health care so that our residents can thrive long-term. As part of our strategic vision, we are building internal behavioral health services and transforming our systems to address rapid growth and the changing needs of residents.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO BE DOING IN THIS ROLE AT PLYMOUTH HOUSING

  • Actively engage with Plymouth residents to foster a sense of community and support which involves building trusting relationships, understanding individual needs, and connecting residents with appropriate resources and services.
  • Offer one-on-one and group peer support to residents, providing a safe and empathetic space for individuals to share their experiences and work towards their goals. This may involve offering guidance, encouragement, and practical assistance in navigating challenges related to substance use and mental health.
  • Assisting residents in accessing a variety of substance-related resources, including both traditional and alternative forms of support. This may involve providing information on treatment options, harm reduction strategies, support groups, and community-based services.
  • Empower residents to take an active role in their recovery journey by promoting self-advocacy and autonomy. This includes helping individuals develop skills for managing their substance use, coping with triggers and cravings, and making informed decisions about their health and wellbeing.
  • Contribute to creating a supportive environment where residents feel empowered to pursue their goals for wellness and recovery. This may involve organizing wellness activities, facilitating educational workshops, and advocating for resident needs within the community.
  • Work closely with PSH and BHI staff, as well as external partners, to ensure a coordinated and holistic approach to resident care. This may involve participating in case conferences, sharing information and insights, and collaborating on treatment plans and interventions.
  • Assist in the collection of documentation, assessments, and other forms of data to support services and resident programming. This includes maintaining accurate records of interactions, progress, and outcomes, in compliance with relevant policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school graduation or equivalent AND two years of experience in the program specialty OR equivalent education/experience, including lived experience.
  • Peer Certification must be started within 18 months of hire.
  • Experience in social services/supportive housing, community advocacy programs, mental/behavioral health services, or related field; relevant education may be substituted, including lived experience.
  • Administrative and program experience focused on homelessness, substance use disorders, harm reduction, Social Drivers of Health, and/or chronic mental health symptoms/conditions is preferred.
  • Experience navigating mental health services as a primary caregiver is preferred.
