General Summary

In this role you will be responsible for driving the development of new products, implementing innovative material, and optimizing processes to enhance product offerings to maintain the company’s competitive edge. The primary purpose of this position is to carry out the formulation activities involved in creating bakery blends designed for the retail and foodservice industries.


Essential Functions

  • Collaborates in the identification, design, development, creation, and testing of product prototypes.
  • Create recipes with the ability to scale up for both limited introductions as well as national product launches.
  • Develop rapid samples to explore with consumers in real purchase and consumption environments.
  • Develop specifications for all raw materials, process controls, and finished goods.
  • Manage scale up trials of products and work closely with Production leaders to train on process.
  • Test and ensure food concepts are shelf stable and food safe. Work with third party labs to test and analyze products.
  • Develop and maintain food product labeling that complies with regulatory requirements and/or customer requirements.
  • Oversee the production of product specification sheets.
  • Lead and manage numerous projects simultaneously.
  • Creatively solve technical problems in a rapid, efficient manner.
  • Assist in pipeline prioritization and technical assessment of future innovation projects & ideas.
  • Collaborate with multiple functions in the Innovation product development process.
  • Deliver accurate product trial details and collaborate with production to guarantee accurate and on-time set up of factory trials.
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of product development activities to key stakeholders.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned by supervisor.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in grain or food science, Food Technology, or a closely related field from an accredited 4-year college. Higher education (e.g., Master of Science) in Food Science, Food Technology or a closely related field is preferred.
  • A minimum of 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in R&D and new product development.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in baking and cereal sciences (5+ years).
  • Must be able to prioritize workload in a multitasking environment, short-term tactical along with longer term strategic activities.
  • Must be able to work independently with minimum supervision and have the ability to interact positively and motivate others.
  • Exceptional communication skills; promoting teamwork and a positive work environment. Strong ability to communicate with all levels of the organization from the production floor to the executive office; strong interpersonal, leadership, & organizational skills.
  • Maintain regular, consistent attendance & punctuality. Must have a flexible schedule that may require occasional nights, weekends, and holidays.

  • Expert understanding of the process and methods for developing and commercializing artisan breads.
  • Expert knowledge and understanding of baking and cereal science.
  • Expert understanding of physical properties and chemical composition of food and ingredients.
  • Expert understanding of extensive areas of food science and technology and experimental procedures.
  • Working understanding of different methods of packaging.
  • Working understanding of Project management – plan, coordinate, communicate progress and challenges, execute project activities.
  • Proficient ability to work with third party manufacturers (co-manufacturers, co-packers) in developing products.
  • Expert ability to muti-task and contribute to many projects at the same time.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel), SharePoint, ERP systems / PowerPoint.

Compensation is based on level of experience, other relevant experience, and requirements of the position. The range provided serves only as a guideline and does not automatically qualify all candidates (internal or external) for the high end of the range.

$130,000.00 to $170,000.00
