Job Purpose

Performs various accounting duties necessary for the efficient and effective operation of the
accounting department.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise and provide guidance to the Associate Accountant, including the review and approval of work.
  • Develop staff by managing performance, setting goals and providing training. Manage personnel issues relating to staff conflicts, absenteeism, performance issues, execute performance plans where necessary, etc.
  • Assess and determine treatment for capitalization of fixed assets and maintain fixed asset records.
  • Works closely with departments to keep track of all fixed asset activity.
  • Prepares monthly indirect tax returns related journal entries.
  • Performs weekly download of summary payroll information for import into the general
    ledger.
  • Processes daily ticketing and fundraising transactions and generate necessary journal entries.
  • Reconciles fundraising transactions to ticketing system and general ledger.
  • Reconciles bank statements for all DPCA and Bonfils accounts and records all necessary
    entries.
  • Reconciles investments for all DCPA and Bonfils accounts and records all necessary entries.
  • Responsible for completing all paperwork related to bank/investment account changes,
    which includes, but not limited to: new account setup, closing accounts, signer changes and
    stock donations.
  • Manages cash balances by analyzing current cash position and prepares forecasted cash flow.
  • Reconciles balance sheet accounts and prepares related entries.
  • Processes invoices for accounting department.
  • Manages new vendors process by ensuring collection of all necessary paperwork, verify vendor information and validating banking details.
  • Maintains sales tax/tax exempt licenses.
  • Assist with the preparation for annual financial statement audit by preparing various schedules and responding to auditor inquiries.
  • May be responsible for other projects and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • BS/BA/BBA in Accounting required.

Experience

  • Minimum four years of experience in accounting. Experience in a not-for-profit
    environment preferred.

Skills/Abilities

  • Knowledge and understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and general
    accounting procedures; familiarity with chart of accounts structure; aptitude for working
    with numbers.
  • Excel skills must be at least intermediate, including tables, pivot tables, lookups and
    complex formulas and functions.
  • Strong knowledge in ERP systems, particularly Sage Intacct is preferred.
  • Ability to quickly grasp and navigate new systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to appropriately prioritize tasks; strong organizational skills; high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills with the ability to work well within a team setting as well as with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to manage, direct and supervise staff.

employee frequently is required to move around the office and work environment; use hands to

Working Conditions

This position operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. This position operates in a hybrid office environment in which select days may be remote.
