POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Assistant Dean for High School Equivalent and Bridge Programs is an instructor coordinator position and reports to the Dean of Adult Education. The Assistant Dean will have limited instructional duties in the bridge program and will help to provide coordination for High School Equivalency, Bridge and upper level Adult Basic Education programming in Adult Education and Career Pathways Departments. The Assistant Dean is responsible for coordinating activities related to curriculum, instructional quality and student data indicators in the pre-BNA Bridge level classes currently being provided at Instituto. The Assistant Dean will help to re-introduce High School Equivalency (GED programming); and help to supervise other English Language Acquisition, Adult Basic Education, and Adult Secondary Education instructors for the Illinois Community College Board and general Adult Education at Instituto del Progreso Latino. The Assistant Dean will supervise from 5 to 15 instructors annually and perform evaluation of such staff, and may assist in preparing program reports, and funding proposals as requested. The Assistant Dean for High School Equivalency and Bridge Programs coordinates with the Dean of Academic Affairs and Career Pathways, and other academic coordinators, for the successful delivery of joint educational and counseling services to students.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides instruction in the Pre-BNA level bridge program.
  • Provides curriculum support and coordination for pre-BNA, syllabus writing, schedule coordination, pre and post testing coordination, and knowledge of filing and data entry procedures.
  • Recommends new faculty hires and helps to interview teaching candidates.
  • Provides resources for staff to accomplish the goals and objectives of the courses taught.
  • Advises staff in areas of improvement.
  • Regularly evaluates and assigned number of adult educators and provides constructive feedback on their work.
  • Verifies all time and attendance records of assigned staff.
  • Conducts regular meetings for bridge and later High School Equivalency programming and advises staff of activities and/or changes within system and funder (ICCB).
  • Coordinates effective registration and ensures all classes are filled and adequately staffed.
  • Adjusts teaching and/or class scheduling to ensure courses are conducted in most effective manner.
  • Reviews and verifies adult educator s attendance and grading records for accuracy and completeness.
  • Meets with Instructors at regularly scheduled and calendarized meetings to assist instructors with curriculum, training, and state proficiency requirements.
  • Assists teachers by ensuring access to materials, carrying out classroom observations, and maintaining daily contact with instructional staff.
  • Assists in administrative duties for carrying out the ICCB English Language Acquisition program, such as the submission of quarterly reports, and a large amount of the program proposal for continued funding or to seek new funding.
  • May help with data entry or supervising data entry as request for ICCB Adult Education and bridge programs.
  • Attends and participates in various meetings/committees as they relate to the Adult Education or District in representation of Instituto del Progreso Latino.
  • Completes various on-going projects of the program by writing and preparing reports, proposals, and or related reviews.
  • Issues necessary correspondence to staff and community agencies as needed.
  • Assists students in completing their academic goals and objectives.
  • Provides additional guidance and assistance as needed.
  • Stays up to date by attending professional development on an ongoing basis, no less than six hours every six months.
  • Attends civic events in support of the school and the community.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION

  • B.A. in language, math, subject area or education; M.A. preferred
  • 5 years classroom experience teaching adults and 2 Years Program Management Experience
  • Obtained or will obtain Standards Proficiency for Adult Education ESL
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, Bilingual Spanish English preferred
  • Experience working with a membership or volunteer environment preferred, nonprofit organization ideal
  • Ability to maintain a high sense of confidentiality
  • Able to work with a wide variety of people
  • Demonstrates ability to work in a team with colleagues.
  • Exhibits professional courtesy in dealing with program participants, colleagues, and team members, and the public.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Nature of work requires an ability to stand for long periods of time, speak during presentations in front of groups, and operate standard business office equipment. WORKING CONDITIONS

Majority of work performed in a general classroom and office environment. Position requires availability for extended hours plus non-traditional hours required to perform job duties. Also requires participation and attendance at organization sponsored events and meetings.
