GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB:

As an outside salesperson, the Account Manager, anticipates, initiates, coordinates and follows up on sales activities and other special projects related to their defined territory. Understands the product needs of the protective packaging and paper tube & core market segments and develops methods to expand market penetration. Work closely with plant production to ensure consistently high quality of product which meets customer specifications, as well as responsive service and timely delivery.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identify sales prospects, follow up on new leads and referrals, initiate contact, and follow up on all sales activities.
  • Develop monthly/annual sales plans with input from VP, Central Sales.
  • Manage all aspects of sales and account maintenance within the designated territory.
  • Prepare professional and informative presentations and proposals
  • Develop product knowledge through on-site consultation and communication with production group
  • Communicate new product offerings, special developments, industry information, and feedback gathered through field activity to appropriate corporate individuals
  • Track competitive information. Analyze competitive data and develop strategies to combat competitive activity.
  • Work closely with Customer Service to ensure quality, delivery, and accounting issues are resolved.
  • Participate in all aspects of trade show appearances, booth, staffing, as necessary.
  • Respond to all customer RFP’s.
  • Other projects and sales activities as needed.
  • Work closely with internal staff to accomplish the work required to close sales
  • Follow-up with customers on any outstanding Accounts Receivable issues for collection of payment
  • Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Completion of a 4-year Degree Program is desired; equivalent combination of acceptable training, education, and experience required.
  • Demonstrated success in an outside sales position preferred.
  • Background in paper, film and flexible packaging, textiles, and tapes and labels a plus.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Excellent interpersonal/teamwork skills, flexibility, project coordination experience and the ability to work well with all levels of management and staff as well as all levels of customer.
  • Strong computer skills and sound knowledge of MS Office products.
  • Strong mathematical, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Ability to compose effective correspondence.
  • Ability to use tact and skill in dealing with diverse population groups.
  • Ability to handle confidential matters and time sensitive material in a professional manner.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize work effectively.
  • Ability to accommodate 80% monthly travel.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires a high level of professionalism at all times while maintaining a collegial and effective relationship with coworkers and customers. As with most sales positions, the Account Manager must demonstrate initiative, excellent communication skills (oral, written, and the ability to develop and deliver presentations in a group setting), organizational skills, and technical proficiency with programs like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
