Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), BBBSLA's Senior Manager of Alumni Engagement is a dynamic and influential role responsible for developing and implementing strategies to engage and cultivate relationships with alumni of the organization, including former Bigs (mentors), Littles (mentees), Board members, staff, and key supporters. This position plays a critical part in fostering a sense of community and loyalty among alumni, while also leveraging their support and involvement to benefit the organization's mission of creating life-changing mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth. This is a visible role, internally with the Agency's staff and governing Board, and externally as a business representative of the organization.

ESSENTIAL JOB ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Alumni Engagement Program Development: Establish, maintain, and execute a comprehensive Alumni Engagement Program that effectively engages and cultivates relationships with alumni.
  • Alumni Engagement Committee and Alumni Ambassador Program Management: Create and oversee an Alumni Committee, as well as an Alumni Ambassador Program, to empower our most active alumni as thought partners and connectors in order to promote BBBSLA and its mission within more communities and networks.
  • Database management: Develop and maintain an accurate and up-to-date alumni database, ensuring that contact information, history with the organization, employment details and other relevant data are properly recorded.
  • External platform management: Develop and maintain an externally facing platform for BBBSLA alumni, with relevant updates, opportunities, stories and celebrations.
  • Event planning and coordination: Organize a variety of events and activities, such as alumni reunions, networking events, career fairs, social gatherings, and virtual events, to foster connections among alumni and between alumni and the organization.
  • Communication strategy: Create and distribute regular communications, such as newsletters, email updates, and social media posts, to keep alumni informed about news, events, opportunities, and mission moments related to the organization. Partner with program department to ensure a formal alumni enrollment process for Bigs and Littles in good standing.
  • Alumni surveys: Conduct regular surveys to gather feedback from alumni on their engagement preferences and experiences and use this information to refine strategies.
  • Cross-departmental collaboration: Work with other BBBSLA departments, such as fundraising, marketing, community engagement, and program recruitment, to integrate alumni engagement initiatives into broader institutional goals and campaigns.
  • Alumni support strategies: Develop and implement strategies to solicit alumni support, including volunteering, mentoring, financial contributions, and community resources.
  • Digital engagement: Develop and implement digital engagement strategies, including website presence, social media campaigns and virtual events, to enhance alumni connections and participation.
  • Alumni recognition programs: Establish programs to recognize and celebrate the achievements and contributions of alumni, such as awards and spotlight features.
  • Mentorship programs: Develop and manage mentorship programs that pair alumni with current Bigs and Littles for professional and personal development.
  • Career services collaboration: Partner with career services to offer job placement assistance, resume reviews, and career advice to alumni.
  • Special Initiatives: Plan and coordinate an alumni initiative around the 70-Year Anniversary of BBBSLA (2025), including unique engagement opportunities and experiences. Develop a plan for alumni engagement in other agency signature and external initiatives.
  • Metrics tracking and evaluation: Track and evaluate the success of alumni engagement efforts through metrics such as event attendance, participation rates, communication engagement, and alumni feedback. Review analytics regularly to inform strategic direction of alumni best practices.
  • Budget management: Manage the alumni relations budget, ensuring effective allocation of resources to support engagement activities and initiatives.
  • Professional development: Stay updated on current trends and best practices in alumni relations and the broader advancement field and participate in relevant professional development opportunities.

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as communications, marketing, or public relations.
  • At least 5 years of experience in alumni relations, fundraising, or related fields, with a track record of success in developing and executing strategic initiatives. Experience in the nonprofit industry or higher education is preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, including managing staff, volunteers, or committees.
  • Ability to think strategically, anticipate future consequences and trends, and incorporate them into the organizational plan.
  • Understanding of higher education and/or nonprofit environments, including the unique challenges and opportunities in engaging alumni within these contexts.
  • Understanding of fundraising principles and strategies, with the ability to effectively engage alumni in philanthropic activities and campaigns.
  • High attention to detail and ability to troubleshoot own work to ensure accuracy.
  • Ability to work with a high degree of autonomy, and exercise personal judgement in a fast-paced environment with a strong sense of humor and integrity.
  • Outstanding oral communication skills, with the presence to serve as an effective spokesperson for the Agency.
  • Exceptional written and communication skills, with the ability to craft engaging and compelling content for various communication channels, including newsletters, emails, and social media platforms.
  • Ability to travel and work evenings and weekends as necessary for events and activities.
  • Proficiency in utilizing CRM systems, databases, and other relevant software to manage and analyze alumni data and engagement metrics.
  • Highly skilled with MS Office and integrated accounting software platforms.
