Status: Full Time, Exempt

Reports to: Shannon West Homeless Youth Center Director


Under the direct supervision of the Shannon West Homeless Youth Center Director, this position assists in the management and operations of the Shannon West Homeless Youth Center. Will primarily oversee residential monitors, interact with residents, and act as an assistant to the director.

Duties, Functions, and Responsibilities:

  1. Provides direction, training and supervision to program staff, and provides hands on assistance to assist them in carrying out their assigned duties.
  2. Conducts new hire training for residential monitors, follows up with testing the training to ensure the correct process is followed.
  3. Provides on-site consultation to staff members, including regular observation of program implementation, with feedback to remedy problems.
  4. Assists with staff investigations, and respond to client grievances.
  5. Conduct individual supervision meetings with residential monitors.
  6. Prepare goals with employees to improve employee development and quality of care to residents.
  7. Complete employee evaluations in a timely manner.
  8. Deliver employee disciplinary action, as appropriate.
  9. Helps ensure that the facility is clean, orderly, and properly maintained so it meets health and safety requirements. Perform daily inspections of campus to ensure appropriate maintenance and cleanliness.
  10. Works with residents, peers and external community contacts.
  11. Maintains a safe and positive community relationship, which includes public relations with neighbors and other providers.
  12. Presents program information to community agencies regarding eligibility requirements.
  13. Maintain a safe and positive community relationship, by working closely with referral services in order to communicate program needs and philosophy.
  14. Builds positive rapport with residents, and verbally de-escalates problematic behaviors.
  15. Complete monthly work schedules, approves vacation request, responds to call offs.
  16. Complete monthly reports, as required by grantors.
  17. Ensure all financial documentation reaches the appropriate department in a timely manner.
  18. Review electronic payroll system and employee timesheets to ensure accuracy.
  19. Attends to employee and client grievances in a timely manner.
  20. Uses professional and legal interviewing techniques to hire staff.
  21. Prepares extensive reports that show progress towards program goals and status of outcome measures, and includes statistical analysis of computer generated data.
  22. Meets regularly with program director to monitor program content, community referrals, staffing issues, and overall planning and implementation of programs.
  23. Will share the on-call supervisor responsibilities with the program director and case manager supervisor. Will report to the facility if necessary when an emergency arises.
  1. Other related duties, as may be assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  1. Knowledge of local social service agencies and programs, as they pertain to the local homeless or at risk youth population.
  2. Knowledge of applicable statutes, ordinances, and codes.
  3. Knowledge of social service work, interviewing/referral techniques.
  4. Experience and understanding of homeless at risk youth issues.
  5. Skill in planning, developing, and performing interviews and other assigned related activities.
  6. Skill in resolving problems or situations requiring the exercise of good judgment.
  7. Ability to work with diverse consumers.
  8. Ability to provide customer service effectively and courteously, under high-pressure circumstances.
  9. Understand and follow complex instructions and procedures. Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.
  10. Communicate effectively with persons from a variety of social, cultural and economic backgrounds, and possess a demonstrated understanding and sensitivity to culturally diverse populations.
  11. Effective written, verbal, and listening skills. Independently initiates and responds to correspondence.
  12. Ability to maintain order and exercise appropriate judgment in crisis situations.
  13. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with residents, fellow employees, other agencies, and the general public.
  14. Organize work schedule and budget time; flexible, with the ability to quickly adjust to shifting priorities.
  15. Understand and follow all agency policies and procedures.
  16. Professional competence in creating databases, and working effectively using Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, Power Point and Access.
  17. Ability to enter and extract data to/from an automated database.
  18. Ability to perform basic math calculations.

Qualifications, Education and/or Equivalent Experience:

  1. Bachelor's Degree in a related field, or combination of education and experience.
  2. Have a minimum of 2 years of experience supervising professional staff in a social service agency.
  3. Health Card
  4. TB Test
  5. CPR/First Aid certification
  6. Pre-Employment Physical
  7. Must pass a background check and pre-employment drug test. Random drug screening is performed.
  8. Valid Nevada Driver's license, and clean DMV record. Driver History Reports are required to be submitted on a quarterly basis.
