The Assistant Director of VPA Operations supports the work of the Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) Operations Director, and collaborates with the Theatre Arts Chair, the Assistant Chair for Production Pedagogy, and the Theatre Arts Production Manager primarily to support the productions and operations of the Theatre Arts Department.

This is a full-time non-exempt position that has regular working hours but requires flexibility to shift hours and cover evenings and weekends based on needs of the production periods.

Salary: $45,500 + benefits

Requirements:

Candidates must have a minimum of a Baccalaureate degree and a desire to work in a fast-paced performing arts environment. Requires excellent communication, organizational and collaborative skills, and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Facility with graphic design, database, and word processing software. Self-starter with time management skills and the ability to work independently at off-site rental venues is critical.

Duties And Responsibilities:

Assist VPA Operations Director with facilities and scheduling management:

  • Provide daily management of VPA reservations in ASTRA and resolving space conflicts.
  • Reserve studio space for all Theatre Arts Dept productions, including Directing and Playwriting Projects, and creating space reservation calendars.
  • Assisting with coordinating the maintenance and repair of VPA Division class/rehearsal/studio spaces in consultation with the Dance Production Manager, and the Operations Director for Art & Art History and The Judy as appropriate.
  • Assist with managing off-campus studios, including rehearsal furniture and instruments.
  • Attend Theatre Arts production meetings in place of the VPA Operations Director as requested.

Assist VPA Operations Director with Theatre Arts Production Publicity and Auditions:

  • Assist with creating Theatre Department publicity (postcards, posters, and programs for productions and special events) using industry standard software applications (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator).
  • Research and obtain rights for visual images included in Theatre Arts publicity.
  • Compile Theatre Arts production and digital playbills in consultation with the Assistant Chair for Production Pedagogy and the Production Manager.
  • Help manage the student audition process for department productions including material preparation, scheduling (SignUpGenius or equivalent), and room set-up and reservations in consultation with the Assistant Chair for Production Pedagogy.
  • Maintain the Theatre Department production photo archive (physical and digital).
  • Maintain the Theatre Department archival video repository.
  • Assist in maintaining the Theatre Arts Department website as requested.
  • Coordinate with MMC Engage and the MMC website to post VPA events as requested.

Assist VPA Operations Director with Front of House and Box Office Management:

  • Work with VPA staff and student work study/production volunteers to support house management and box office activities.
  • Draft event listings and troubleshoot ticket issues with Eventbrite or similar system.
  • Provide programs and other materials needed by FOH staff.
  • Observe and uphold House safety and security procedures and contact relevant College offices as needed.
