FSLA Status: Non-exempt, Part-time 12 to 13 hours per week

Compensation:$19.00-$20.00 per hour

Summary: 

Eager, bilingual Classroom Assistant to work 12 hours per week teaching and interacting in Spanish with children ages 5 to 13 years old.

Must have evening availability from 4-7:30 pm from Monday-Thursday as the class schedule is subject to change within that time frame depending on the needs of our families and our building limitations. Occasional work at varying hours of the week or weekend may be expected for community events/resource fairs (i.e. Day of the Dead, Day of the Child, EMS). Currently classes run from 5-7pm on Mondays and Wednesdays in Renton and from 4:15-6:15 on Tuesdays and Thursdays in Kent.

Essential Duties: 

  • Arrive 15-30 min before program to check-in about program schedule for the day
  • Assist for 15-30 min after program in clean-up (not required on weeks that there is a community event)
  • Use professional and age-appropriate language
  • Possess self-awareness of areas of strength and areas of growth
  • Be flexible, open and adaptable to change
  • Be open to redirection, and willing to grow
  • Work with the proper attitude that exemplifies the Society’s Statement of Values
  • Conduct self in a manner that aligns to employee handbook guidelines and conveys our organization’s mission
  • Assist in managing 5-10 students at a time with behavior management in a positive manner
  • Provide support in different centers: reading, writing, science, craft/art center
  • Support and help students with social-emotional development
  • As assigned, assist with classroom team-building activities
  • Willingness to learn and try new things and apply new strategies
  • Contribute ideas to improve Centro Rendu program
  • Maintain confidentiality of student records and information
  • Provide feedback on student performance and on academic issues to teachers and program lead
  • Collaborate with lead teacher and teacher assistant on status of students
  • Must have the ability to build relationships with the students and be an active, reflective listener
  • Perform other duties as assigned (i.e. data entry)

Education/Experience

A GED or HS diploma.  Background in education a plus.

Language Ability

Fluency in Spanish (reading, writing, and speaking) is required. Must have the ability to communicate with others using both English and Spanish.

Communication Skills

Uses compassionate, reflective listening strategies to engage families of low-income background. 

Computer Skills

Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
