Position Summary/General Description:

The Assistant General Manager (AGM) is responsible for assisting the General Manager (GM) with the planning, directing, controlling, and coordination of all business activities for the Rio Puerco property staffing over 900 FTE’s in accordance with the mission, vision, values, policies, and objectives established by Laguna Development Corporation. This position creates efficiencies in communication and overall improvement in the operation of multiple departments throughout the Rio Puerco campus.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Assist in overseeing and directing assigned operational activities associated with both short and long-term strategic planning for these areas. • Assist in providing direction and support to all operations for the maximization of profits. Emphasis on management of the following departments: Security, Cage, Human Resources, Site Controller, Custodial, Facilities/Maintenance, Hospitality and Retail and/or others as assigned.

• Assist in providing operational review through measurements of operational effectiveness. Develops statistical and trend analysis of internal and external factors affecting business conditions.

• Meet departmental financial objectives by forecasting requirements, preparing an annual budget, scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances, and initiating corrective actions.

• In consultation with operational senior staff, directs the preparation of the annual operating budget which includes accurate revenue projections, operational expenses, and capital improvements.

• Assist in ensuring an accurate accounting and reporting of the financial performance of the assigned property.

• Assist in review and analysis of expenditures, but does not have signatory authority on contracts necessary for regular company operations with specified limits of authority.

• Promote a working environment designed to achieve greater profits and effective working relations. Develop the capacity of human resources within the assigned property.

• Act as a team player and leader of that team and assists in addressing and correcting operational deficiencies and improvements.

• Maintain effective and harmonious channels of communication between management and employees that promotes employee morale and enhances a positive working environment.

• Ensure that a standard of excellence in guest service is delivered and customer satisfaction throughout the property is achieved and maintained.

• Assist in ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements required by Federal, State, and Tribal law to include the gaming ordinance, the Tribal/State Compact, the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act Minimum Internal Control Standard requirements and other applicable employment laws.

• Assist in conferring with the management team to plan business objectives and develop organization goals and policies.

• Assist in coordinating functions and operations between divisions and establishes responsibilities and procedures for attaining objectives.

• Assist in appraising the assigned property’s financial position and issues periodic reports on financial stability, liquidity and growth of the organization; monitors the organization’s performance against key business objectives.

• Assist in analyzing operational issues impacting business functions and their financial impact.

• Assist in examining, evaluating, and pursuing new trends, markets or methods that can assist the growth and success of the assigned property.

• Assist in coaching, mentoring and providing assistance to staff when appropriate.

• Ensure effective administration is provided for all assigned departments including gaming, retail, food and beverage and marketing.

• Provide effective leadership with primary objectives of attaining maximum profit on operations through effective marketing and fiscal management strategies.

• At all times maintain a courteous, positive and professional working relationship with all personnel and the general public (e.g., clients and vendors).

• Effectively communicate in English, in both written and oral forms.

• Work odd or unusual hours, including weekends and holidays.

• Actively participate in Management Development Leadership Series (MDLS) yearly.

• Actively participate in LDC Management Capacity Program as required.

• Participate on committees and perform additional duties and responsibilities as necessary or assigned.

Education & Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree required; professional designation strongly preferred. Not less than 8 years’ relevant work experience may substitute Bachelor’s degree and professional designation when appropriate based on industry standard.

• Five (5) years relevant experience.

• Five (5) years prior financial experience in budget management, cash management; including cash flow projections, receivables, payables, and experience in dealing with vendors, and contracts.

• Demonstrated ability to establish long-range goals and objectives and specify strategies, actions and timelines to achieve them.

Licensing & Certification:

• None.

Computer Equipment, Software, Machinery:

• Proficient in basic computer skills (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Essential Physical Requirements:

• The job requires hearing, sitting, and standing, talking, and walking 51-100% of the time.

• The job requires driving 1-24% of the time.

Essential Mental Demands:

• Problem solving, organizing, planning, making decisions, interpreting data, reading and writing 51-100% of the time.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• The job requires hiring, promoting, compensating, terminating, training, disciplining, scheduling, apportioning work among others, directing, apprising productivity, measuring performance and planning budgets.

Work Environment (inside/outside):

• The job is performed indoors 51-100% with exposure to fumes (e.g., cigarette/cigar smoke).

Other Requirements:

• Obtain and maintain a gaming license through the Pueblo of Laguna’s Gaming Control Board and must provide/maintain a valid New Mexico drivers’ license.

• Must pass a pre-employment alcohol/drug screening.
