Refuge for Women is a non-profit, faith-based organization providing specialized care for women who have escaped human trafficking or sexual exploitation. With multiple locations across the U.S., Refuge for Women offers safe housing, at no charge to the resident, with around-the-clock care as clients progress through evidence-based, trauma-informed programming. The compassionate staff is trained to help residents work through the program to reclaim their identities and reach their goals to overcome addictions, heal from trauma and develop life skills leading to healthy, balanced living and financial independence. Position Overview 

The Transitional Living Director reports to the Executive Director and oversees all duties related to running the transitional living and care program and transitional house activities. TLD cultivates a strong partnership with Executive Director and program house Program Director to create and maintain a consistent, stable and safe environment towards growth and independence in alignment with Refuge for Women’s mission, vision and values.


Program Administration: 

  • Set up and maintain administrative systems necessary to support effective program operations
  • Conduct resident intake process and maintain all intake and discharge paperwork 
  • Prepare incoming resident binders and in house documentation as needed 
  • Maintain house inventories including donated groceries and monthly toiletries 
  • Update gift in kind log 


Program Support for Transitional Living (TL) and Transitional Care (TC)

  • Administer monthly resident assessments for transitional living residents, score and record 
  • Uphold Refuge for Women culture, program requirements, rules and standards of conduct per resident guidelines
  • Create and maintain case notes on each interaction with residents within 24 hours, including weekly meetings 
  • Create progress reports at indicated intervals - 30, 60, 90 days and then every 90 days following 
  • Assist and empower residents to be in control of their ongoing needs related to medical insurance and food stamps 
  • Assist and empower residents to be proactive in their overall well-being with reminders to make appointments for medical, psychological, dental, prescription pick-ups, etc. 
  • Empower and support residents to find means of transportation to appointments, work, church, etc. 
  • Ensure the safety of all residents by having a medication procedure that ensures no open access 
  • Assist each TL and/or TC resident with creating an individualized transitional case management plan (ITCMP) including short term and long term goals, may include targeted case management billed through Medicaid
  • Meet weekly with each TL and/or TC participant about progress through their ITCMP and goals
  • Hold a weekly house meeting with all residents 

Work with Program House Phase 2 & 3 residents: 

  • Teach Jobs for Life class at the program house 
  • Meet weekly with each Phase 2 & 3 resident working on transitional living goals (as determined by Program Director)

Other Responsibilities, including Community Involvement: 

  • Create new ongoing partnerships with community organizations for transitional needs of residents 
  • Maintain positive, functional relationships with community, government and referral agencies 
  • Represent Refuge for Women monthly at the Continuum Of Care meeting 
  • Meet regularly with the Executive Director and Program Director
  • Attend meetings, trainings, events, task force meetings as requested by the Executive Director 

Skills and Qualifications 

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including proficiency in MS Office and Google applications 
  • Ability to adapt to frequently changing priorities and handle crisis situations 
  • Office or admin experience 
  • Strong servant leadership and teamwork skills, teachable, self-motivated, organized 
  • Loving but firm temperament, willing to take initiative in stressful situations 
  • Maintain strong leadership in any situation, including conflict resolution, crisis response, difficult relational dynamics
  • Effective communication and accountability with residents as they progress through their transitional plan
  • Proficiency with emergency or crisis procedures 
  • Knowledge about addict behaviors and trauma is very helpful 
  • Familiarity with 12-step or similar healing and recovery program (e.g. Celebrate Recovery) 
  • Must be able to operate a motor vehicle safely and confidently at all times of day or night
