Do you have experience in a social science research setting or working with aging and/or disabled populations? Vital Research, in collaboration with the state of Colorado, is seeking contracted Field Interviewers to conduct interviews with individuals who are receiving state services to assess participant quality of life and satisfaction with services for National Core Indicators – Aging and Disabilities (NCI-AD) and National Core Indicators – Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (NCI-IDD) projects. This 8-month project will begin with a 3-day virtual training on September 17-19 and will continue through May of 2025 (or until all surveys are completed).

 

 As a Field Interviewer, you will play a vital role in conducting semi-structured in-person or remote (via Zoom or phone) interviews with adults with an intellectual or developmental disability, or aging adults or those with physical disabilities, from varying cultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Through these interviews, you will be responsible for assessing the participant’s quality of life and satisfaction with services. Core questions cover topics such as: accessing essential services, communication with providers, case managers, choice of services, medical transportation, and personal safety, as well as community inclusion and empowerment.

As a Field Interviewer, responsibilities include:

  • Organizing and managing your interview schedule independently.
  • Conducting interviews with empathy, ensuring a comfortable and unbiased environment.
  • Traveling to participants' preferred locations for in-person interviews, usually their homes.
  • Tracking call dispositions and accessing participant information through an online file-sharing platform.
  • Managing Zoom video meetings, including invitations and technical support for respondents.
  • Recording interview outcomes, resolving inconsistencies, and submitting completed interviews and findings.
  • Ensuring compliance with confidentiality, federal HIPAA regulations, and data security requirements.
  • Maintaining regular communication with Vital Research, your trusted partner.


Field interviewers MUST be available to conduct all interview modes (in-person, phone, and video) based on participant preference. All work hours including scheduling of appointments, travel time, mileage, and supplies are included in the per-interview compensation rate.


To thrive in this role, we seek candidates who possess the following qualities:

  • Reside in or very near the state of Colorado
  • Self-driven and comfortable working independently in a remote environment.
  • Tech-savvy with proficiency in Zoom and other web-based platforms.
  • Comfortable interacting with individuals with disabilities and older adults and demonstrating sensitivity to their needs.
  • Excellent communication skills to build trust, encourage participation and establish rapport with potential participants.
  • Access to your own car for traveling to participants' residences.
  • Equipped with a webcam, personal computer, and secure Wi-Fi connection for contract work.
  • Organized and meticulous, ensuring that nothing falls through the cracks.


In addition, the following qualifications are desired:

  • Fluency in Spanish/English is highly desired.
  • Previous experience in research fieldwork, especially interviewing or observation.
  • Familiarity with individuals with disabilities, group homes or adult foster homes, older adults, or day centers.
  • Sales-minded individuals who are energized and resilient to rejection.
  • Interest in professional development for future graduate school or advanced social research employment


We understand that your dedication deserves appropriate compensation. As a contracted Field Interviewer, you will invoice Vital Research and receive payment at the following rates:

  • $400 for training and orientation broken down into the following parts
    • $50 upon completion of pre-training modules
    • $300 upon completion of the virtual training
    • $50 upon completion of a skills assessment and mock interview
  • $80 per completed phone interview
  • $85-$90 per completed video interview
  • $95+ per completed in-person interview, based on the distance from your home
