About the role:

As a School Social Worker at Millington Municipal Schools, you will work collaboratively with the school-level team to address mental health concerns, behavioral concerns, attendance issues, positive behavioral support, academic support, and classroom support. Additionally, School Social Workers serve as the liaison between schools, and parents, and coordinate with school-level personnel to provide services to student groups and families to assist in removing and improving barriers to academic success.

Responsibilities:

This list is not exhaustive, and employees may be assigned additional duties by management as required. Regular and reliable attendance is an expectation of the job. This list is not in the order of importance or time spent.

Goal: To improve and strengthen relationships between staff, students, and families in order to promote student achievement acting as a mental health specialist in the schools.

  • Employ appropriate social work methods in situations affecting the student's educational process.
  • Serves as the mental health specialist in the school.
  • Collaborate with education and social service professionals to develop appropriate agency services for students and their families.
  • Help manage/facilitate the Crisis Management Team for the school.
  • Develop and assist in the implementation of plans for interventions with students that may include Crisis Intervention and Threat Assessments.
  • Provide case management/wrap-around services to students and their families.
  • Work collaboratively with administration to reduce student truancy, improve student discipline, and remove social barriers that impede learning.
  • Provide professional development for staff.
  • Promote a safe, caring, and drug-free school.
  • Teach parenting skills and promote parental involvement in the schools.
  • Conduct home visits and assess family needs.
  • Identify resources for families such as mental health care, medical care, recreational opportunities, childcare, legal help, and financial assistance.
  • Conduct various types of counseling to include individual, small group, and family counseling.
  • Collaborate and act as a liaison between school staff, students, parents, and community agencies.
  • Collaborate and act as a re-entry liaison between the school staff, students, parents, and the Alternative School.
  • Implement appropriate programs, groups, and initiatives to target at-risk populations.
  • Assist families with the interpretation of school policies and procedures.
  • Participate in referrals and case management of students/families involved in the court system.
  • Perform such other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Services.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Social Work, with licensure. (Master's preferred)
  • Licenses, Certifications or Registrations Required: License granted by the State of Tennessee Division of Health Related Boards as a Social Worker. Must be licensed by the Tennessee Department of Education in School Social Work or be eligible for that license through one of the two pathways.
  • Experience: Three (3) years of experience working with children in a related field is preferred, but not required.
  • Skills Required: Case management assessment and documentation abilities; effective verbal and written communication; ability to collaborate with internal and external partners and clients; analytical abilities.

  • Commitment to continuous improvement and ongoing professional development.

FLSA Status: Exempt.

We believe in honesty and transparency throughout our hiring process, which is why our salary range for teaching positions is between $47,671.62 and $71,808.27. We consider a candidate's years of experience when determining their pay
