This position reports to the application architect, BA manager, and IT director.


This is a totally hands-on position that includes business analyst responsibilities that include, but are not limited to, requirement gathering and documentation to complement the automated test engineer role. The candidate must be able to start from scratch and head off running. strong experience in the setup of an automated test environment according to industry best practices. Must be able to work in a highly demanding work environment.


3.0 Position Summary

• The ideal candidate will have demonstrated planning, designed test cases, and set up an automated test environment.

• Strong practical QA principles and practice foundation, including requirement gathering, documentation, story writing with acceptance criteria, defining test strategy, planning, execution, and automation.

• Strong working understanding and implementation practice of the software development life cycle and testing tools

• Experience with automated testing tools (HP LoadRunner, QuickTest Pro, and Selenium)

• Ability to define, organize, implement, and execute testing processes within the test team.

• Ability to identify, recommend, and implement mitigation strategies to keep project work on track; ability to lead deep dives after iteration planning; and ability to hold the team accountable for deliverables.

• Work closely with developers, product managers, and other cross-functional teams to understand requirements and provide feedback.

• Participate in daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and other Agile/Scrum ceremonies.

• Ability to monitor QA work and escalate issues when appropriate.

• Ability to learn and actively seek new skills and knowledge to keep up with the changing technology field, including bringing any new ideas to the SQE department.

• Ability to think outside the box, adapt to circumstances, learn from co-workers, and share information and experiences.

• Ability to work independently and mostly in a team-based environment.

• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

• Ability to work under pressure and in high stress situations.

• Advanced experience using estimation practices related to task durations to meet schedules in an agile software development environment.

• Validate defects and triage defects for the release.

• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and tools.

• Experience with API testing and performance testing.

• Understanding of Coding Fundamentals (variable declaration, program flow, functions, error handling, etc.)

• Experienced with engineering MVC, MVP, and MVVM client-side frameworks such as jQuery or Telerik.

• Experience or knowledge in: HTML, XML, Java, JavaScript, SQL/TSQL, stored procedures, DB Tracing, DB Profiling/SQL Profiler, impact analysis, AJAX, JSON, and XPath

4.0 Education:

Bachelor's degree in computer science with a minimum of five years of related experience. Some experience at a senior or lead level.


5.0 Responsibilities

• Define and document requirements; write stories with appropriate acceptance criteria that can translate to automated test cases.

• Review functional requirements to assess their impact on the software applications and formulate test cases based on them.

• Write concise, complete, well-organized test cases, bug reports, and status reports.

• Participate in the setup, configuration, and maintenance of software test environments.

• Evaluate the application and test cases to be automated.

• Work with the team to write automation test scripts and create a library of automated tests to maximize test coverage.

• Contribute to the team by performing analysis, monitoring systems, and assisting technical and product managers in the evaluation of QA processes.

• Provide release support during production software deployment.

• Have a ‘break-it’ attitude and, at the same time, be a problem solver.

• Facilitates troubleshooting and solves problems.

• Develop and drive strategies and implementation of software quality engineering best practices.

• Assess and define automation approaches, frameworks, and tools appropriate for the product sets.

• Provide guidance, mentorship, and training for other team members.

• Work with other team members to drive quality goals and initiatives.

• Communicate with the QA Manager and management team on quality initiatives, strategies, and results.

• Contribute to the development of other team members.

• Understands and implements, at a team level, practices developed by the Engineering Leadership team.

• Understands when to execute a SQL trace to capture stored procedure execution, duration, and read/writes.

• Ensures highly complex testing on projects utilizing Practice Area guidelines, such as understanding API/Web Services testing and when to write test harnesses using web services technologies and can disseminate this information to team members.

• Leads, plans, schedules, and implements testing for projects; defines test objectives; and writes manual test scenarios. Formulates test plans, including systems analysis, risk analysis, dependency analysis, writing and plotting test strategies, and determining how to report defects (pre- and post-production).

• Investigates and reports project issues by communicating and working with various departments, including development, product, and project management, as well as other project teams.

• Provides training and mentoring to software quality engineers. Analyzes and ensures requirements and user story acceptance criteria are acceptable for test case creation.

• Executes manual and automated test cases, as well as performs back-end data validation.

• Tracks test progress and results in test management tools like Jira, Quality Center, or similar tools.

• Identifies opportunities, then leads the rollout of inventive tech ideas and implements solutions with other project teams, the SQE department, as well as other departments.

• Other duties as assigned.
