The Off-site Supervisor is a dynamic leader that utilizes trauma informed leadership to coordinate the needs of the youth and BCC talent and the community based group homes. The Off-site Supervisor understands and implements policies according to agency best practices and regulatory standards to promote safety. The Off-site supervisor effectively works as a member of the care team to support the development and implementation of treatment. The Off-Site Supervisor is a coach and mentor for the direct care staff, works to combat vicarious trauma and supports their professional development through regular guidance sessions. The Supervisor is responsible for initiating and maintaining effective working relationships with youth, families, placement agencies, and community resources prior to admission, through placement, and after discharge. The Off-Site Supervisor works with the youth, family and/or placing agency to evaluate the youth’s progress toward goal attainment.

What does this job do specifically?
  • Model and act in accordance with BCC’s core values: safety, empathy, relationships, and impact.
  • Provides effective coaching to direct care staff through “on the floor” experiential learning opportunities and regular guidance to support ongoing professional development. Recognizes the potential for vicarious trauma and works towards minimizing it through debriefing incidents and supporting self-care. Models self-care through their actions.
  • Ensures safe environment that supports treatment through implementation of policies and procedures and the development of effective systems related to health and safety.
  • Promotes effective communication about expectations through the timely submission of documentation and weekly team meetings.
  • Participates as a member of each youth’s care team for the purpose of treatment/discharge planning and reviews. Must effectively communicate both written and verbally.
  • Provides transportation for residents as needed to maintain the important connection to their families and communities.
  • Contributes to the prevention and management of challenging behaviors by implementing the Board of Child Care’s evidence based models and behavior management techniques, specifically Therapeutic Crisis Intervention(TCI)Complete admission service needs assessments that include participation by child/youth, parents/guardians in the identification of strengths, service needs, and discharge planning.
  • Locates and facilitates referrals to community-based resources within the youth’s home community. Coordinates with the Board of Child Care staff members and community resources to address clients’ service needs. Ensures that the service needs are meet.
  • Maintains effective working relationships with families, children/youth, colleagues, consultants and community agencies to include scheduling home visits, notifications of serious incidents, follow-up on all ongoing documentation needs.
  • Ensures that the staff to resident ratio is adequate and consistent with the agency policy and unit needs.
  • Ensures accurate medication administration, documentation and safe storage of medication in accordance with the guidelines of the State of Maryland’s Medication Administration.
  • Ensures that each direct care staff successfully completes forty hours of professional training per year of employment to effectively meet their position responsibilities.
  • Provides direct feedback to direct care staff through scheduled guidance sessions and annual evaluations. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of unit systems, and effectively oversees their completion.
  • Actively works towards their ongoing professional development and complete training requirements and personnel requirements. job related trainings on an annual basis.
  • Responsible for managing the staffing resources for the unit, including completing timesheets, and schedule to meet the unit’s needs, while minimizing and/or eliminating overtime.
  • Demonstrates the ability to maintain an accurate account of all unit finances.
  • Fosters equality and diversity in problem identification and conflict resolution among both staff and residents.

What shifts would I work? Are full time positions available?

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are dependent upon the needs of the program. This position regularly requires flexible work hours to include evening and weekend hours. Eligible for flex schedule. Essential for snow

What experience and education do I need?Required Education

Bachelor’s Degree completed with a human service major in fields such as psychology, sociology, social work or education with a minimum of 1 year experience working in an adolescent treatment setting; preferably in residential treatment.

Preferred Education and Experience

A master’s degree in a Human Service related field with 2 years of Supervisory or management experience.
