Job DescriptionJob DescriptionMadrigal Pharmaceuticals is seeking a Senior Director, Planning & Operations with the Research & Development organization. The Senior Director, Planning & Operations is a unique role responsible for supporting the CMO and R&D senior leadership team to achieve department objectives and budget expectations. To be successful in this role it will require business acumen, scientific thinking, planning influence and strong communication skills.  This role reports directly to the Chief Medical Officer.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with senior management and cross-functional teams to develop strategic plans for R&D to ensure that short and long-term corporate goals and regulatory standards are met
  • Supports CMO and R&D leadership team to ensure timely approvals of invoices, T&E,  and completion of compliance training and other key business priorities
  • Help support Departmental activities including organizing department meetings focused on education and cross-functional data sharing
  • Facilitate alignment and collaboration between Madrigal’s R&D function and other parts of the organization including commercial and G&A functions
  • Motivate and inspire team members to achieve department objectives and foster a collaborative and high-performing team culture
  • Collaborates with the R&D leadership team to develop and track resource allocation, timelines, and budgets
  • Works with HR on R&D organization structure and HR initiatives such as individual goal-setting, and other organizational and people needs
  • In partnership with legal counsel, develop and monitor vendor contracts
  • Support the productivity of the leadership meetings by owning the planning, agenda, notes and post meeting follow-up
  • Offer general support; correspondence, agendas, scheduling, minute taking, etc. (core administrative support to the CEO and his executives is provided by a separate admin role)
  • Travel as required

Qualifications and Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university is required. Advanced degree preferred
  • 7+ years of relevant professional management experience, with at least 5+ years’ reporting directly to C-Suite executive(s)
  • Articulate communicator with presentation-building and delivery skills
  • Scientific background highly preferred
  • Capable of designing thoughtful meeting processes/agendas and skilled at chairing or facilitating meetings or sessions that make progress on high-stakes discussions with senior stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to absorb and learn new domains quickly
  • Masterful manager of multiple projects, activities, and tasks across work-streams
  • Able to balance urgency with collaboration

Compensation:
Base salary is determined by several factors that include, but are not limited to, a successful candidate's qualifications, skills, education, experience, business needs, and market demands. The role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, and comprehensive benefits, which include flexible paid time off (PTO), medical, dental, vision, and life and disability insurance.
