Area Educator II

Position Summary
The Area Educator II will assist the 4-H Youth Development State Specialist(s) and Cooperative Extension Administrators. It will focus on positive Youth Development and will provide compelling and impactful research-based educational programming that meets the assessed needs of low-income, limited resource youth who are underserved and unserved and may be living in marginalized communities.
Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities
- Work in partnership with schools and other youth-serving organizations, community-based collaborators and 4-H groups to deliver programs that address the specific needs of limited-resource and socially disadvantaged youth, based on changing social economic and demographic factors.
- Develop programs to be aligned with the Lincoln University State Extension Plan of Work, including but not limited to focus on healthy lifestyles, leadership development, STEAM education, social justice, academic achievement and workforce readiness.
- Solicit and secure extramural funding in the amount of $500 - $5,000 during each evaluation period, to include gifts and donations; may include grant proposal writing.
- Design and produce two engaging fact sheets related to subject matter written at an eighth-grade or below reading level during each evaluation period utilizing research-based information.
- Plan, design, implement, teach and evaluate innovative programming in the area of Youth Development that demonstrates measurable impact.
- Manage his/her program budget and the budget of any extramural funds he/she secures.
- May supervise volunteers, students, and program participants.
- May require working on weekends and evenings.
- May require traveling around the region and occasional travel around and outside of the State of Missouri.
- Other duties, as assigned by State Specialist(s) and Cooperative Extension Administrators.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Required:
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Computer proficiency to include Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, and Outlook
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to work as part of a larger team.
Preferred:
- Ability to read, speak, and understand Spanish.
Education and Experience
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in child/adolescent development, psychology, primary or secondary education, or a closely related field, from an accredited university is required.
- Minimum of three years of work experience conducting youth programming with low-income, ethnically diverse, underserved and unserved audiences in informal settings.
Preferred:
- Demonstrated success in securing extramural resources through donations, gifts, and grant funds.
- Demonstrated success conducting educational sessions via distance learning and on virtual platforms.
- Demonstrated success teaching and developing audience contracts with social media.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit for prolonged periods at a desk and working on a computer.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 25 lbs.
- Ability to lift, carry, and put away parcels, and equipment.
- Normal physical mobility, which includes movement from place to place.
- Normal physical agility, which includes ability to maneuver body while in place.
- Normal physical strength to handle routine office equipment.
- Normal endurance.
