Site Reliability Engineer:
Journal Technologies is seeking a motivated Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) to ensure eSeries applications are always (i) available to end-users and (ii) running in a performant manner (iii) triage and debug bugs reported from Customer Support and Professional Services. Whether on-prem or cloud hosted, the SRE will identify root causes of escalated eSeries operational issues and be the catalyst to resolve them. This position will be the technical glue between developers, Implementation, Support and Cloud Operations. The SRE will build up a great amount of historical knowledge over time and will also be tasked with documenting much of what they know
Responsibilities:
- Debug and Triage incoming Bug Reports from Customer Support, Professional Services and eventually external partners. Get all the necessary information related to the defect. Work with the reporter to be able to reproduce the defect. If the environment is not setup, work with reporter to set up environment.
- Identify and help resolve defects which can / are resolvable through configuration.
- Diagnose root cause of every escalated on-prem/hosted application issue by analyzing thread dumps for blocks, sustain logs for errors, triaging browser JavaScript errors, examining the eSeries Performance Dashboard, etc.
- Work with Implementation and Support teams to refactor non-performant business rules and reports throughout the systems.
- Work with Support teams to track system issues that surface from upgrading eSeries and keep a running ledger of these issues for Development to access.
- Work with the development team on tickets related to system defects, system performance and upgrades.
- Work with CloudOps team on perfecting eSeries performance settings (cmsuser.props, JAVA_OPTS, etc).
- Author and manage best practices documentation for building performant and reliable eSeries business rules, workflows, reports, etc.

Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or related education or field experience.
- Technical skills are a must (SQL, analyzing thread dumps and application performance monitoring data, parsing log data, etc).
- Existing knowledge of eSeries configuration, architecture and overall system design such as workflow, business rules, velocity template engine, groovy scripting, application performance screens.
- Analytical mindset and problem solving.
- Excellent written, interpersonal and communication skills.
- Good understanding of security best practice.
- Must be able to work with minimal supervision within predefined sets of procedures.
Nice to Have:
- 1-2 years Java development experience
- AWS experience (EC2, S3, RDS, VPC, DNS/Route53, ECS, CloudWatch, etc).
- Familiarity with software configuration management (SCP), monitoring tools and certificate management (ssh key, TLS, CA, PKI, etc).
- Good understanding of security best practice.
