The Food & Nutrition Program Manager is responsible for the planning, implementation, budgeting, and evaluation of food and nutrition programming at LAYC. In partnership with other LAYC programs and external partners, they are responsible for implementing hands-on cooking, nutrition, and garden programming for over 100 young people, ages six to 24, annually. Additionally, they are responsible for the operations of the LAYC pantry, providing bags of food and other necessities to the LAYC community.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Supervise program staff.
  • Prepare and monitor program budget.
  • Monitor program implementation and evaluation, collecting relevant data in partnership with the Learning and Evaluation Department.
  • Develop and implement strategies to engage youth in nutrition education, cooking skills, and gardening.
  • Oversee creation and dissemination of nutrition information to be shared with LAYC community.
  • Support staff in developing and facilitating accurate, culturally relevant, and age-appropriate programming about food.
  • Monitor operations of on-site pantry, creating and enforcing structures to ensure food safety, smooth operations, and data gathering.
  • Share information on best practices for food and nutrition programming with partners, local universities, and interns/volunteers.
  • Work with Development Department to solicit grants and individual donations.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with stakeholders and community partners.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor’s degree, ideally in nutrition or other relevant topic, and at least two years of youth development experience.
  • Knowledge of nutrition and health.
  • Experience designing curriculum and leading workshops, trainings, or classes.
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of community and local resources.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
  • Excellent problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Excellent time management and ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel.
  • The willingness and desire to work independently, as well as collaboratively, and to take on additional responsibilities.
  • Complete criminal and child abuse/neglect clearances.
  • Flexible, energetic, positive individual with commitment to youth development in a high quality, respectful environment.
  • Ability to work well and communicate with culturally diverse populations.
  • LAYC/MMYC requires the COVID-19 vaccine of all its employees. You will be asked to provide proof of vaccination at the time of your interview and at your onboarding.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This is largely a sedentary position that requires the ability to speak, hear, see, and lift small objects up to 10 lbs. May require the ability to travel locally and/or regionally.
