Position Description and Responsibilities

We are seeking a full-time Urban Planner to work as part of our City Design team in our Kansas City office location. In this role you’ll have the opportunity to apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills to the planning and design challenges for the built environment. You’ll assist in the analysis, ideation, organization, and preparation of innovative policy and regulatory documents including zoning, subdivision regulations, and development ordinances, and other public policy documents to address the needs of varied communities and development settings.

This role will focus on crafting policy and regulatory reforms that lead to unique placemaking and city building solutions. The application and interpretation of local government development codes will demonstrate the various impacts of development standards to communities. This role provides an opportunity to provide intellectual knowledge and support to a growing and evolving planning and design studio as it impacts the quality of communities and cities.

We are Seeking Candidates with:

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree
  • 1-5 years of related experience, public sector experience desirable
  • Understanding and experience in the interpretation, application, and implementation of development regulations.
  • Desire to improve development regulations to help shape communities
  • Aptitude for problem solving
  • Strong analytical skills – visual perception, document review, and data gathering and analysis
  • Excellent writing skills, and the use of various production platforms and tools, to support graphic production
  • The ability to convey and/or illustrate new ideas both independently and in collaboration.
  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal, and experience presenting to the public and government officials

We seek people who value the responsibility of design, humbly engage many, pursue ideas with rigor, and seek meaningful outcomes both big and small. Currently, our 130+ employees collaborate across our Studio and office locations. Our practice's core values embrace equity, diversity and creative freedom.

This is a full-time position which includes generous benefits such as vacation time, sick time, medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance, as well as participation in a 401(k) and employee stock ownership plan. Multistudio supports a hybrid work environment; encouraging at least three days in office for regional hires.
