Program Summary:

The Downtown Drop In Center Project Coordinator coordinates the activities of the Downtown Drop-In Center, held each Tuesday evening from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm at the First Congregation United Church of Christ at 945 G ST, NW Washington DC.


Duties and Responsibilities:

The Downtown Drop In Center Project Coordinator works with onsite staff and volunteers to maintain a low barrier program, using harm reduction strategies to engage program participants. The Project Coordinator also collaborates with other staff to provide life skills trainings and other socio-cultural activities in an effort to support their successful transition to self-sufficiency. This is a part-time position on Tuesdays 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm.


Duties include:

  • Ordering dinner for program participants;
  • Check staff and volunteers in and assign to their respective workstations;
  • Ensure the various activities including movies, games, food, and intake table are set up and ready to go;
  • Work with drop in center program director to schedule program workshops and client services;
  • Provide technical assistance and support to staff and volunteers needing additional guidance and instruction;
  • Troubleshoot issues and basic problem solving with drop-in center program director;
  • Close the center including clean-up, collecting all intake and sign-in forms, conducting a walk-thru of the site with church personnel;
  • Data entry for each evening of programming into the HMIS system;
  • Provide data, as requested, to drop-in center program director for quarterly reporting;
  • Send brief status reports of weekly drop-in center programming including intake and sign-in forms to Program Director;
  • Participate in periodic calls with SBY staff and/or Downtown Drop-In Center partners to discuss progress, challenges, and key updates.

Qualifications:

Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in social work, Masters strongly preferred

•REQUIRED: Minimum of three to five years of experience working with youth

•Strong knowledge of community resources

• Understanding of harm reduction philosophy, trauma-informed provision of services and positive youth development strategies;

•Genuine interest in working with disenfranchised youth and young adults;

•Bilingual skills (English and Spanish) are a plus;

•Experience working with LGBTQ youth is a plus;

•Strong communication and organization skills;

•Dynamic energy, able to multi-task and negotiate multiple demands on attention;

•Ability to translate positive youth development techniques into practice;

•Ability to deal with a multicultural and diverse setting;

•Basic understanding of computer and data base systems for managing case records;

•Ability to complete FBI Background check, Police Clearance, Child Protection Clearance, and Driving Clearance
