Position Summary:


The Latino Community Outreach Specialist is passionate about connecting our thriving Latino community to relevant, impactful library services and resources. This person strives to continuously identify and remove access barriers related to education, employment, and general enrichment activities and works across the district to build overall library usership by developing trusting relationships through engagement efforts and active community partnerships. NCW Libraries is committed to embedding diversity, equity, and inclusion into everything we do and the Latino Community Outreach Specialist models inclusivity and prioritizes diverse perspectives in all programming and initiatives.

 

This position works collaboratively with the Latino Services Manager with a focus on understanding and meeting the most pressing needs of our Latino communities.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:


This position reports to the Latino Services Manager and works closely with other services managers and cross-departmental working groups.

  • Collaboratively develops and delivers quality outreach services in Spanish and English for all ages and demographics throughout our five-county district.
  • Promotes NCW Libraries’ resources, focusing on strengthening access opportunities for traditionally underrepresented and/or underserved populations.
  • Builds and strengthens community relationships and community networks by developing partnerships, attending community events, engaging with community members, and coordinating a wide variety of events and activities.
  • Attends meetings and events to learn about community needs and issues, identify opportunities for collaborative partnership, and positively represent NCW Libraries’ services and resources.
  • Assists Latino Services Manager with training and support activities for branch staff that build their capacity to develop and lead programs and outreach services that align with Latino Services department focus areas as well as individualized community needs and interests.
  • Monitors data and follows data-driven assessment protocols to evaluate and improve programs, goals, and initiatives.
  • Collaborates with marketing and communications to successfully promote programs and library resources.
  • Keeps abreast of current developments in librarianship, outreach, and Latino services by attending workshops, conferences, and professional meetings, and by reading current literature.
  • Stays aware of library policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience:


  • Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year college or university. An equivalent combination of education and directly relevant work experience may be considered.
  • Two years’ experience working with diverse populations in a public library or other social service outreach setting.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish required, including ability to read, write, and speak in Spanish at an advanced level.
  • Bicultural Latino/Latina/Latine highly desired.

Special Requirements:


  • Possession of a valid driver’s license in the State of Washington and a clean driving record.


Compensation and Benefits:


  • The pay grade for this position spans from $25.37- $34.09/hour, with 11 steps in the pay scale. Employees with good performance can expect to receive an annual step progression of 3% on their anniversary date as adopted in the annual budget.

Work Environment & Physical Demands:

In this role, the employee frequently needs to stand, walk, sit, use their hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, reach with their hands and arms, reach overhead, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and communicate verbally. They will also push, pull, load, and unload carts, bins, and boxes, as well as retrieve and shelve books. Occasionally, the employee must climb or balance on a stool. The job requires frequently lifting and moving up to 20 pounds and occasionally lifting and/or moving up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities necessary for this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate.
