Washington, United States GBS Solutions Full time $110,000 - $130,000
Job DescriptionJob Description

We are actively recruiting for an Artificial Intelligence RMF Policy and Documentation Specialist. GBS offers Medical, Dental, Vision, 401k and 401k Match, STD, LTD and Life Insurance with Accidental Death and Dismemberment, Voluntary Life Insurance with Accidental Death and Dismemberment and Paid Time Off.

GBS Solutions Corporation (www.gbssol.com) is an SBA 8(a)-certified, small, disadvantaged business founded in 2014 to deliver high quality, innovative business and technical solutions. GBS has a reputation for outstanding leadership, customer and employee care, and innovation. We take pride in providing highly trained professionals with in-depth expertise in many technical areas as well as professional and administrative services.

Our customer released the Artificial Intelligence Risk Management Framework (AI RMF) 1.0 on January 28, 2023. Since then, they have established efforts to operationalize the AI RMF for various audiences and purposes and to work on related projects in standards development organizations (SDOs). Our customer has also been given responsibilities in Executive Order (EO) 14110, "EO on Safe, Secure and Trustworthy Deployment and Use of AI," released October 30, 2023, to prioritize the safe and responsible development and implementation of AI, including through work on standards. These efforts will enhance adoption of the AI RMF and responsible AI practices across private industry and government agencies and enable our customer to deliver guidance and implementation of trustworthy AI methodologies, including for generative AI.

To meet its mission of cultivating trust in technology, our customer is seeking expertise to expand its capacity to augment NIST participation in AI-related standardization efforts and engagements with international partners on such standards. Pursuant to responsibilities under EO 14110, our customer is currently finalizing a Plan for Global Engagement on AI Standards (NIST AI 100-5), which lays out a strategy for US stakeholders to shape international AI standards. This plan aims at fostering common approaches to developing, evaluating, using, and governing AI systems worldwide. EO 14110 also directs our customer to produce a report to the President on priority actions taken pursuant to the plan within 180 days of the date the plan is established.

Additional resources are needed to help our customer firm up the foundations of emerging and in-progress standards for AI, including on the topics discussed in NIST AI 100-5; bring their renowned work defining concepts and measurement techniques for AI systems into SDOs; and deliver on their White House mandate to work with international partners on these goals.

GBS is looking for an Artificial Intelligence RMF Policy and Documentation Specialist to provide specialized technical expertise to our customer's staff to promote the development of technically sound international standards in line with the NIST AI RMF initiatives, including by conducting research and standards activities and by helping our customer interact with partners abroad. The purpose of this work is to support execution of NIST AI 100-5, both by our customer and by other US stakeholders, including by contributing to the development of guidance and standards for safe and trustworthy AI technologies.

Job Functions

Provide support services to the NIST Trustworthy AI Program to support the customer's work on AI-related standards:

  • Support strategy, prioritization, planning, logistics, relationship management, and communication as NIST executes its responsibilities regarding global engagement on AI standards under EO 14110
  • Create a list of priority engagement activities, including proposed approach and stakeholders to engage
  • Outline the draft EO-mandated 180-day report on actions taken under the plan
  • Draft reports to be sent to the White House on engagement actions undertaken
  • Provide research support to NIST as it develops and advances collaborative frameworks, standards, guidelines, and associated methods and techniques for artificial intelligence
  • Compile NIST expert comments on draft documents circulated by standards committees
  • Draft proposals for new work items on bias in AI and AI security, including identification of co-editors from other countries

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years (with a preference for 5 years) technical writing and documentation experience pertaining to all aspects of technical writing
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working with Microsoft Office products, e.g., Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently or under general direction

Education / Certification Requirements

  • BS or BA required
