Job DescriptionJob Description

Position Summary: The Kinship Care Coordinator is responsible for completing home studies on relatives that have been identified as a placement option for youth in foster care. They assess the caregiver’s ability to provide for the youth’s physical, mental, educational and social needs as well as visit the relative placement monthly to provide ongoing support.

Location: Topeka

Education: A bachelor’s or master’s degree in social work, community counseling, human development, child and family development, applied family and youth services, public health, health sciences, trauma studies, sociology/social services, substance abuse/addictions, early childhood, education, or psychology from an accredited college/university.

Experience: Previous experience in children and family services preferred.

Licensure/Certification: Valid driver’s license and auto insurance.

Essential Duties:

Kinship Care Training and Support:

  • Train staff on the importance of kinship care and community resources.
  • Educate kinship placements on reunification efforts and boundaries with parents.
  • Develop safety plans and provide crisis management for kinship placements.

Community Engagement:

  • Reinforce community understanding of kinship care.
  • Participate in local and national kinship care groups.
  • Conduct monthly Kinship Group meetings as needed.

Case Management:

  • Assist with difficult cases and provide in-home services.
  • Attend all required court hearings and case planning conferences.
  • Complete walkthroughs, home study assessments, and background checks.
  • Document all client interactions and maintain case activity logs.

Adoption and Financial Assistance:

  • Complete adoption home studies as needed.
  • Assist kinship placements in obtaining financial assistance and community resources.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Maintain relationships with DCF, courts, and community partners.
  • Provide ongoing support for kinship placements and work closely with Case Managers.

Training and Development:

  • Attend all required trainings to stay updated on best practices in child welfare.
